BOONVILLE, N.Y. — The Sherrill Silversmiths scored three in the third and went on to defeat the Adirondack Trail Blazers, 6-1 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at the Robert Smith Sports Complex, Tuesday night.
Ernest Ruch III (Mansfield) singled to start to the inning as the Silversmiths sent nine to the plate. After Adirondack starter Evon Previte (Wagner) hit Nick Flemister (St. John Fisher) with a pitch, Tyler Decker (Jefferson CC) delivered a base hit, and the Smitties had the runs needed for victory.
One out later, Flemister scored an unearned run. Brad Kaczka (Monroe CC) and Mike Weakley (SUNY Brockport) walked to load the bases. Bryon Campbell (Maryland Eastern Shore) worked an RBI base on balls, and the Smitties led 4-0.
Sherrill added two in the eighth. Weakley homered to lead the frame. Campbell followed with a single and eventually scored when Corbin Strykemain (Niagara) walked three straight.
Adirondack’s lone run came on a solo shot by Eric Baker (Rogers St.) in the third.
Sherrill took a 1-0 lead in the first when Flemister’s base hit plated Weakley.
Nate Eastman (Mohawk Valley CC) allowed one run on five hits over five and a third innings. The right-hander, making his first start of the season, struck struck out five and walked four. Eastman has made five relief appearances. He is 1-1 on the season.
Jesus Hernandez (Maryland Eastern Shore) tossed two and two-thirds of shutout ball. Hernandez struck out four and walked none.
Baron Roberts (Young Harris) worked a scoreless ninth.
Previte took the loss. He allowed four runs (two earned) in four innings. He is 0-1.
Campbell went three-for-four with two walks.
Weakley added two hits in five trips.
Baker and Colton Campbell (Rogers St.) had two hits apiece for the Trail Blazers.
Sherrill (7-11) gets a night off before the Syracuse Salt Cats (5-13) visit Noyes Park. Game time on Thursday is 5 p.m.
Adirondack (11-7) hosts the Geneva Red Wings (6-9) on Wednesday night. Dylan Griswold (Williams Coll.) gets the start for Adirondack. Jeff Croteau (Bentley U) takes the ball for Geneva.
