GENEVA – Taylor Nichols (South Alabama) paced a 10-hit attack and Anthony Dovale (Florida Southern College) pitched 6 scoreless innings as the Geneva Twins snapped a four game losing streak, defeating the Olean Oilers 8-2 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at McDonough Stadium.
Geneva started the scoring in the bottom half of the first frame when Carter Bumgardner (Bucknell U) hit a one-out double, moved to third on a ground ball by Michael Allen (Davenport U), and scored on an error by Oilers’ shortstop, Joe Pantano (Erie CC).
That would be all the run support Davole would need as the right-handed junior shut down the Olean lineup. The Lakeland, F.L. native allowed just three hits, while walking one and recording five punch-outs. Impressively, Davole needed just 81 pitches in six innings of work, 52 of them for strikes.
Geneva put the game out of reach with seven in the bottom of the sixth inning. During the rally, the Twins batted around in the order as Nichols collected two hits during the home team’s half of the inning. The Mobile, AL native and Josh Chinni (Wayland Baptist U) each drove in a pair as the Twins extended their lead to 8-0.
Zach Machmer (Medaille College) stuck out one, walked two, surrendered nine hits and seven runs in taking the loss for the Oilers.
