SHERRILL, N.Y. –– Dark clouds loomed on the horizon and light rain fell as the Sherrill Silversmiths dropped to the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs 10-2. The Sherrill bats were flustered time and time again by Syracuse starter Alex Basso. The right hander threw seven scoreless innings, striking out 10. He improves to 3-0 on the year and has yet to surrender an earned run. Sherrill starter Oliver Pratt kept the potent Syracuse bats quiet until they exploded for five runs in the seventh, capped off by a three-run homer from Brian Witkowski. The Chiefs added three more in the eighth off reliever Tom Moriarty. Syracuse infielder Alex Sanchez went three-for-four, raising his league-leading batting average up to an even .500. Sherrill’s runs came on an eighth inning two-run home run by Mike Weakley. The Smitties return to action tomorrow at Adirondack before returning home for a Thursday matchup with the Syracuse Salt Cats.
