UTICA, N.Y. — Miguel Navarro (San Jacinto College) hurled eight complete for his second win of the week as the Utica Brewers defeated the Geneva Red Wings 4-2 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Donovan Stadium, Saturday night.

Navarro added to his league lead striking out 11, walking one while allowing five hits and two earned runs.

The Brewers tallied one in the first and never looked back.

Kenny Durling (Misericordia) tripled with two outs in the first frame scoring Stephen Dezzi (Univ. of Tampa) from first, and the Brewers had a lead they never relinquished.

Dezzi’s two-out single in the second made it a 3-0 game with Brian Pruett (Coastal Carolina) and Andrew McNett  coming home.

Eros Modena (Indian River St.) plated Blaine Tanner (Three Rivers CC) in the fifth, and Utica had its largest lead of the contest.

Geneva cut the lead in half in the seventh. Jesse Puscheck (Canisius) connected for his first home run of the season, a two-run shot scoring Brad Blumer (Cameron U).

Puscheck went three-for-three on the evening.

Chris Murphy (Texas Christian U) took the loss. The right-hander allowed ten hits and four runs in five innings of work.

Navarro struck out 13 earlier in the week. The right-hander is 3-0 with 40 strike outs in 27 innings of work.

Durling and Tanner had three hits apiece.

Utica (9-7) hosts Adirondack (10-6) on Sunday evening. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Donovan Stadium.

Geneva (5-8) welcomes the Syracuse Salt Cats (5-11) to McDonough Park.  Matt Hockenberry (Temple) will throw the 3 p.m. scheduled first pitch. Maso Cotton (Virginia St.) gets the ball for the Cats.  Geneva, winners of its first three games, has lost six straight.
