SHERRILL, N.Y.- The Sherrill Silversmiths couldn’t hold back the Utica Brewers, Thursday night. Utica jumped out to a first inning 6-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated Sherrill 18-8 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Noyes Park. The Brewers offense exploded for 21 hits including five home runs.
Stephen Dezzi went a perfect five-for-five at the plate for Utica, while Blaine Tanner hit two homeruns and had six rbi.
Jason Zigler picked up the win in his first start of the year. The lefty threw five scoreless innings allowing only two hits and three walks while striking out six.
Brad Kaczka went three-for-four with a homerun, two rbi and three runs scored, and Byron Campbell went three-for-for with four rbi for the Silversmiths in the losing effort.
With the win Utica improves to 8-6 while Sherrill drops to 6-8. The Silversmiths return to action tomorrow night in Syracuse as they play the Salt Cats at LeMoyne College.
