HORNELL, N.Y. – The Hornell Dodgers scored runs in each of the first four innings en route to a 9-6 victory over AIA on Tuesday night. The Dodgers improve to 8-4 on the season while AIA is now 3-7.
Matt Calhoun (Harding) got the blue & white on the board in the first with a RBI single. Heath Burton (Furman) added to the lead with a RBI single in the second and Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher) scored on a throwing error.
AIA closed the gap to 3-2 with two unearned runs in the third but the Dodgers answered back with four of their own keyed by a two-run triple by Dylan Drayton (NC Central). Roeder also had a RBI single and Drayton scored on a wild pitch.
Once again AIA plated two runs in the fourth but the Dodgers answered with two of their own on a RBI single by Kevin Johnson (Pittsburgh) and a sacrifice fly by Dylan Dunn (Hagerstown CC).
Neither team could get anything on the board until the eighth when AIA scored two on a throwing error to cut the lead to 9-6. The Dodgers went to Johnson out of the pen and he collected the final four outs to seal the victory.
Calhoun finished the day three-for-four with a RBI, Drayton was two-for-three with 2 RBI, Roeder was two-for-three, and Cody Stevenson (Webster) was two-for-four.
Nick Boyd (Central Connecticut) improved to 3-0 on the year with six solid innings of six hit ball. He allowed two earned runs while walking one and striking out five.
Christian Lichtenthaler was two-for-four with 2 RBI for AIA while Johnathan Burkhardt was two-for-five. AJ Crosby was tough out of the pen allowing just two hits in five innings of work.
The Dodgers are on the road the rest of the week. They begin their four-game road swing with a 7 p.m. contest at McDonough Park vs. the Geneva Twins.
