SHERRILL — Nick Flemister (St. John Fisher) and Brad Kaczka (Monroe CC) paced a 12-hit attack and Oliver Pratt (Young Harris) hurled seven complete for the win as the Sherrill Silversmiths defeated the Adirondack Trail Blazers 7-4 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Noyes Park, Sunday evening.
Sherrill jumped to a 2-1 advantage in the first and never surrendered the lead. Kaczka greeted Adirondack starter, Charles Parsons (Mohawk Valley CC) with his first of three hits for the game, and Flemister drilled his first home run of the season. Sherrill sent eight batters to the plate in the first.
The Smiths added single runs in the second and third. Mitchell Iseneker (Mansfield) led the second with a double and scored on a two-out single by Hayden Hibberd (Cabrillo).
Bryon Campbell (Maryland Eastern Shore) hit a solo shot in the third. Sherrill led 4-1.
Adirondack scratched back with one in the fourth.
Cody Campbell (Rogers State) started the frame with a single. The St. Cloud, Florida native moved ninety feet on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit by Matthew Robinson (Georgia Coll & St. University).
But the Smitties put the game out of reach in the bottom of the stanza.
Taylor Hackett (Niagara) reached on an error to start the bottom of the fourth. Iseneker and Kaczka loaded the bases with back-to-back singles. Flemister plated Hackett with a sacrifice fly. After Hibberd walked, Wesley Van Boom (Brown) brought home two with a single.
Pratt fanned six, walked none and allowed eight hits for his first win of the season. The right-hander allowed two unearned runs in five innings of work when the Smitties topped the Syracuse Salt Cats 7-3 earlier this season. He has seven strike outs and zero walks in a dozen innings of work.
Campbell and Kaczka had three hits apiece. Flemister drove in three.
Eric Baker (Rogers State) had four hits, two RBI and a run scored for Adirondack.
Geoff Soja (Niagara) hurled two shutout innings in relief for the Trail Blazers.
The Trail Blazers (3-2) get a day off before traveling to Utica to take on the Brewers. Game time Tuesday night at Donovan Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
Sherrill (3-3) hosts the East-Division-leading Geneva Red Wings (3-0) on Wednesday night. A 5 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at the friendly confines of Noyes Park.
