NIAGARA FALLS — Brad Rush (St. John Fisher) paced a 12-hit attack, and Brandon Nemeti (Erie CC) won for the second time in as many starts as the Olean Oilers defeated the Niagara Power 10-5 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Sal Maglie Stadium.
Olean put runs on the board in five of the first seven innings. The Oilers scored two in the second and never looked back. Pat Welsh (Maris) and Joe Chittester (Clarion) slammed back-to-back RBI doubles as the Oilers grabbed a 2-1 lead. Rush led the frame with a walk and scored on Welsh’s hit.
Rush kept the “Oil Boom” moving in the third. The Albion, N.Y. native drilled a one-out, two-run home run for a 4-1 Olean lead.
Steve Pollakov (U of Rochester), Joe Pantano (Erie CC) and Jon Kemmer (Clarion) strung together base hits as Olean added two more in the fourth.
Olean put the game out of reach with three in the seventh. Chittester’s two-out double, his second two-bagger of the game, plated Richards and Rush. Jose Alicea (Genesee CC) followed with an RBI single, and Olean led 10-2.
Niagara scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and a pair in the ninth. Frank Polino (N. Greenville U) walked to start the seventh and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Spencer Bowles (St. Leo).
Chane Lynch (Hill JC) tripled home Polino in the ninth and scored on a balk.
Rush led all hitters with three hits in three trips to go with three RBI, three runs scored and two walks.
Chittester added two hits and three RBI.
Pollakov chipped in a pair of singles.
Richards scored two.
Nemeti struck out five, walked four and surrendered three hits and three runs (one earned) in 6.2 innings of work. It was the second win of the week for the right-hander who pitched seven-plus innings as Olean defeated the Geneva Twins, Sunday.
Jordan Powell (Freed Hardeman) and Brandon Mumaw (St. Leo) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Power.
Niagara (1-1) travels to Webster for a 7 p.m. first pitch with the Rochester Athletes in Action (0-1).
The Oilers (3-2) travel north on route 36 for a tilt 7 p.m. tilt with the Hornell Dodgers (3-1).
