GENEVA, NY – Nick Taylor paced a 14-hit attack as the Geneva Twins defeated the Olean Oilers 13-8 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at McDonough Park, Wednesday night.
Zachary Lander (SUNY Brockport) capped a six-run first with a three-run home run as the Twins sent nine to the plate. Josh Chinni started the scoring with a bases loaded single bringing home Matt Athonis (Western New England College) and Nate Langhalls (University of Toledo).
One out later, Cody Walker plated Timmy Clark (Western New England College) with a single.
Walker and Chinni scored on Lander’s bomb.
Olean scored in six of the first seven frames but never overcame deficit.
The Oilers pushed three across in the second. Seth Heck (Tacoma CC) doubled home Pat Welsh (Marist) to start the rally. Joe Chittester (Clarion) scored on a ground ball. Jon Kemmer (Clarion) delivered with a two-out single scoring Heck, and the Oilers were within two at 6-4.
But that was as close as the Oil boom would get.
Geneva tallied once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and rounded out the scoring with three in the sixth.
Walker led the stanza with a home run.
Two outs later, Connor Lorenzo (SUNY Fredonia) singled. Anthonis walked. After a wild pitch advanced the runners, Langhalls scored two with a single.
Kemmel and Taylor each collected four hits.
Lander had a game-high four RBI. Walker drove in three.
Athonis scored four runs.
Lander and Walker each homered for the first time this season.
Thomas Richards (University of Buffalo) connected on his first round-tripper, a solo shot in the seventh.
Garrett Scott (Owens CC) went six innings in relief for his first win of the season. The right-hander struck six and walked two while surrendering three earned runs.
Zach Machmer (Medaille) took the loss.
Geneva (1-1) travels to Hornell for a Thursday tilt with the Dodgers at Maple City Park. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled.
Olean (2-2) will visit the “Barber Shop” in Niagara Friday night for 7 p.m. soiree with the Power.
