With the 2012 NYCBL season lurking around the corner, formerly known Allegany Nitros now the Wellsville Nitros, will have a bunch of new faces on the diamond to make a strong post season run this approaching summer season.
“With a good mixture of talent, general manager Steve Ackley declared, “we are very confident in the players that we have brought in and we are extremely excited to coach these individuals.”
The Nitros this season, according to Ackley, will be featuring 14 division I, 8 division II, and 6 division III athletes. With this group of players from various divisions, much of the team’s success will start with the guys on the mound believes Ackley.
“Our pitching staff as a whole will play a major role in setting the tone. I expect our guys to compete each and every day stated Ackley. One of the pitchers leading the staff will be Evan Robaczewski. ( Misericordia University)
Junior Evan Robaczewski was named Pitcher of the Year after setting a school record for wins (10-0). He led the league in strikeouts (50) and was third in ERA (3.30) according to athletics.misericordia.edu.
“Much of our success will come from the ability to pitch and play defense. If we are able to eliminate by throwing quality strikes and make the routine plays then we will have an opportunity to win every game. As a whole, our team lacks a legitimate power threat, we have some guys with gap pop but we will have to do a good job of manufacturing runs by being aggressive on the base paths and doing the little things that will help win games” acknowledged Ackley
Finally, the NYCBL will feature certainly a great deal of talent this summer such as Robaczewski, but Ackley believes that the NYCBL “does a great job of attracting talent that receives interest from scouts. Players will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of scouts from several organizations and this summer will be a good chance to put themselves on the map” credited Ackley.
Hopefully on the map of opportunities, the NYCBL will produce yet another promising MLB prospect.
