Garret Shivley has been with Power since 2010. In his first year as the
Power skipper, Shivley is fresh off playing overseas and assisting the Olivet Nazarene University baseball team to a CCAC South Division title and NCCAA World Series birth.
In Shivley’s three years as the team’s hitting coach and recruiting coordinator, the Tigers have hit over .300 and compiled an on-base percentage of over .400 each season. Olivet has also led the nation two years in a row in stolen bases. While playing in Hungary, where he both played and coached, he hit over .400, stole 15 bases, and struck out 45 batters in 31 innings of work on the mound.
As a player at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio), Shivley helped lead
the Cougars to the NAIA Regional Championship five consecutive years, including an appearance in the NAIA World Series in 2003. His teams also
qualified for three NCCAA World Series, including the 2008 squad that won
the national championship. Shivley served as team captain on that team and
was named to both the all-conference and NCCAA All-Region teams.
“I am excited for the opportunity to coach with the Power once again. We are
going to have an aggressive squad. I think fans can expect a great year,”
he said. “The opportunity to live out my faith through coaching in a Christian environment is something I am passionate about. Nothing is more energizing than growing in one’s faith through something you are passionate about. It’s going to be a fun summer,” said Shivley.
Shivley Graduated from Mount Vernon in 2008 with a double major in
theological studies and philosophy and a minor in business. He completed his
master’s degree in teaching from Olivet in 2010. A newlywed, Shivley resides
in Orland Park with his wife, Sarah.
