Hornell Dodgers General Manager Paul Welker has announced that Tony Fuller will return to Hornell for a second season at the helm of the team. Fuller led the 2011 team to a 22-22 mark and fell just short of making the NYCBL playoffs.
Seven members of Fuller’s 2011 squad were named All-NYCBL at the end of the year. The Dodgers were 4th in the NYCBL in hitting last year (.284 batting average) and 8th in pitching (4.26 ERA). Hornell led the league with 118 stolen bases.is a
Welker is excited about having his skipper back, “Fuller is an up-and-coming coach. He really enjoyed the city of Hornell, the people, and the experience as a whole. I know he didn’t like not making the playoffs last year and he is ready to make another run and lead the Dodgers to bigger things.”
Fuller is currently an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Monroe CC in Rochester, NY. His duties include assisting with the day to day operations of the baseball program and on the field he assists with the infielders and hitters.
In 2011, Fuller helped the Tribunes to their 7th straight Region III title with a 29-12 record.
Prior to coaching at MCC, Fuller spent time as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Buffalo. He also served as the head coach of the Braman Post American Legion team the last three summers. He led Braman to two berths in the NYS American Legion Championship tournament.
As a player, Fuller was part of two Region III championship teams at Monroe CC before transferring to University of Buffalo.
Contracts for the 2012 Dodgers have been sent out and the roster is shaping up. The 2012 NYCBL schedule will also be released soon as well.
“The Dodger board of directors have met a few times already this offseason and things are off to a great start. We are proud to be planning for the 19th consecutive season of Dodger baseball in Hornell.”
