NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles men’s basketball program will host its inaugural alumni weekend from June 22-23 on the Niagara University campus.
The weekend will feature great activities for the whole family, including clinics, autograph signings, contests and a commemorative program. Several alums from the program which began play in 1906 will be returning to Monteagle Ridge, including Naismith Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy.
“Maybe this should be called FAMILY WEEKEND!! I know the word family is used loosely, but this will be more like a family reunion,” Niagara head coach Joe Mihalich said. “We all grew to love Niagara University, our teammates and our NU experience! I simply cannot wait to see everyone!!!”
The festivities will begin on Friday, June 22 with a family cookout from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. On Saturday, the day’s events start with the Calvin Murphy Instructional Clinic from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Gallagher Center. Murphy will run the camp for boys and girls between 8-16 years old. There is a $5 registration fee which includes a t-shirt.
A luncheon featuring Murphy will be at the Como Restaurant in Niagara Falls, N.Y. from Noon – 2 p.m. Tickets for the luncheon are $20 before June 15 and $25 at the door. Back on campus, there will be a “Pick Your Seat” event starting at 4 p.m. for season tickets for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
The main event will be the games played at the legendary ‘Taps’ Gallagher Center – the Old-Timers’ Game and the Mihalich Era Game. The Old-Timers’ game will feature legends from Buffalo State, Canisius and St. Bonaventure against Niagara’s legends, while the Mihalich Era Game will feature alums from 1999-2012. The Old-Timers’ Game will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Mihalich Era Game. Tickets for the games will be $5. After the games, there will be a postgame autograph session and a reception.
