ROCHESTER, NY — Ralph Alloco (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) plated Bobby Frantz (Webster, NY/Webster-Thomas) as the Monroe Community College Tribunes rallied to defeat the Alfred State Pioneers 5-4 in the H. David Chamberlain Invitational.

Alloco’s hard hit ball allowed Frantz to scamper home from third as the Tribunes erased a three-run deficit in their last two at bats.

Down 3-0, Monroe scored two in the sixth. Vinny Bomasuto (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) and Alloco led with back-to-back doubles. Bomasuto scored on Alloco’s hit. Alloco advanced to third when he slid under the tag on a ground ball by Brad Kaczka (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland).  He scored on a sacrifice fly by Frank Poerio (Gibsonia, PA/Hampton).

Alfred added a run in the seventh when Jordan Wheaton’s (Wayland, NY) two-out single scored Mitchell Smith (Rochester, NY).

Pat Moore (Webster, NY/Webster-Thomas) led the seventh for the Black and Gold with a base on balls. Brian Dixon (East Amherst, NY/St. Joseph’s) was hit by a pitch. Looking to advance the runners, Frantz beat out an intended sacrifice bunt for a single. Danny Mendick (Pittsford, NY/Mendon) delivered Moore and Dixon with a single up the middle.

Alfred scored three in the fourth. Joseph Dullea (Cold Spring, NY) capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Zach Melino (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) worked six and two-thirds for the Tribs. Tyler Wilson (Pittsford, NY/Mendon) came on and retired one batter for the win.

The Tribunes threatened in the second, fourth and fifth. Kaczka drilled a one-out single to center in the second. Poerio followed with a walk, but the Black and Gold came away with nothing.  Alloco reached on a one-out error in the fourth before Kaczka walked, again they came away with the same result. Jalen Dennis (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) led the fifth with a single, and Dixon followed with a hit.

Monroe improves to 13-16 with the win.

MCC hosts the Ontario Terriers for a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
