BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior C.J. McCollum has been named a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District honoree, as announced on Wednesday. The honor marks his third in as many years. The nation’s fifth leading scorer, McCollum enters Friday’s NCAA Second Round game with a 21.9 average along with 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
McCollum is joined on the first team by Bucknell’s Mike Muscala along with Zack Rosen (Penn), Greg Mangano (Yale) and Keith Wright (Harvard). Making up the second team is Ian Hummer (Princeton), Charles Hinkle (American), Kyle Casey (Harvard), Ella Ellis (Army) and Brian Barbour (Columbia).
A native of Canton, Ohio, McCollum has led the Mountain Hawks to their second Patriot League Championship in the past three seasons, and with it, a berth to the NCAA Tournament. Lehigh heads to Greensboro, N.C. for a 7:15 p.m. showdown against Duke Friday. The game will air on CBS with Jim Nantz, Clark Kellogg and Tracy Wolfson on the call.
McCollum currently owns 2,030 career points, good for second in Lehigh history and fourth in Patriot League history. He’s scored 20 or more points in 21 games this season and 58 times in his career while hitting 30 on 13 occasions. McCollum was named Patriot League Player of the Week six times this season, tying his record set as a sophomore. He posted 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting in last Wednesday’s Patriot League Championship victory at Bucknell.
