KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Army junior F Ella Ellis has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 13 Second Team. Ellis is now eligible for NABC All-America accolades.
Ellis, a first-team All-Patriot League selection, is the Black Knights’ first NABC honoree since Mark Lueking was named to the second team in 1995.
Ellis led the Black Knights and ranked third in the conference, scoring 17.5 points per game. He was also the team’s leading rebounder at 4.9 boards per game and ranked second on the squad with 2.1 assists per game. Ellis and Patriot League Player of the Year C.J. McCollum, a first-team all-district pick, were the only two players in the Patriot League to average at least 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
During conference play, Ellis was third in the Patriot League with a 17.4 points-per-game average. He ranked second in the conference, hitting 89.2 percent of his free throw tries in 14 games (74-83).
Ellis etched his name into the West Point record book in 2011-12, becoming the 28th member of the Black Knights’ 1,000-point club. He is only the second Army player to ever record at least 500 points, 130 rebounds and 50 assists in the same season. Ellis is the first player to accomplish that feat since Army Athletics Hall of Fame member Randy Cozzens in 1984-85. The Houston native enters his final season ranked eighth on Army’s all-time list with 121 three-pointers.
