PITTSBURGH – Senior Justine Raterman tied her career high with 32 points in the University of Dayton’s 74-69 overtime victory over Duquesne at the A.J. Palumbo Center Saturday.
The Flyers outscored Duquesne 14-9 in the overtime period and improve to 20-6 overall and 12-2 in Atlantic 10 play, breaking a record for A-10 conference wins in a season. The Dukes drop to 19-10 overall and 7-7 in A-10 action.
In addition to her 32 points, Raterman grabbed a team-high three steals and a game-high eight rebounds. She also clinched the game by knocking down two free throws with eight seconds remaining on OT.
Senior Elle Queen also scored in double figures, putting up 10 points. Sophomore Cassie Sant added nine points. Freshman Andrea Hoover scored seven points, including two clutch layups in overtime.
Dayton led 30-23 at the first intermission, paced by Raterman’s 13 first-half points. The Dukes led by as much as four, 13-9 with 11:36 to play. The Flyers used an 8-0 run, in which Raterman scored eight consecutive points, to give Dayton a 17-13 lead with 7:37 to play in the half.
UD held its largest lead, 35-25, with 18:02 left in regulation. Jocelyn Floyd sank Duquesne’s only three-point field goal of the game to tie it at 38-all with 13:12 left in the second half.
The Flyers led by four with 4:08 showing on the clock, but did not score the rest of regulation. Wumi Agunbiade tied the game with 49 seconds to play on a pair of free throws.
Raterman had six of UD’s 14 overtime points.
The Flyers have clinched a first-round bye in the 2012 Buick Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship in Philadelphia March 2-5. They will open tournament play March 3 in the quarterfinals.
