DAYTON, Ohio – The Xavier women’s basketball team suffered an 83-54 to Dayton Wednesday night at the Flyers’ UD Arena. Junior Jessica Pachko led the Musketeers with 15 points and nine rebounds.
With the loss, Xavier falls to 7-19 on the season and 4-9 in Atlantic 10 action while Dayton improves to 19-6 overall and 11-2 in league play.
Also for the Musketeers, senior Tyeasha Moss scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists while Sabrina Johnson added a career-high tying 12 points.
Dayton shot 42.9 percent from the floor for the game to Xavier’s 41.7 percent while the Flyers won the battle of the boards, 47-35.
The Musketeers fell behind early to the Flyers but used a 7-0 run late in the half to cut the lead to 13, 21-34, with 1:35 left in the half. Dayton’s 8-1 run to end the frame extended its lead out to 20, 42-22. The Flyers shot an even 40 percent from the field to the Musketeers’ 39.1 percent but UD dominated the glass, 26-14. Johnson led the way for Xavier in the first half with eight points.
Sophomore Shatyra Hawkes was not with the team tonight. “Shatyra was unable to participate in tonight’s game due to personal reasons,” commented head coach Amy Waugh. “Although there is no definitive time frame for her, we look forward to her return to the team.”
The Flyers were led by Justine Raterman with a game-high 25 points and Ally Malott with six rebounds.
The Musketeers return home for Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 26. The 2:00 p.m. match-up against Massachusetts will close out the regular season for the Musketeers and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. Two senior team members, Moss and Johnson, will be recognized following the game.
