The Clips took their “Lob City” act on the road to the nation’s capital, and wiped out the under manned Wizards 107-81 on Saturday night.
Washington scored 19 or fewer points in three quarters, while the Clippers tallied at least 28 points in those same three quarters.
The teams top play maker, and arguably the best creator in the game today, had an awful night. Chris Paul shot 1/9 from the field, while the rest of the team combined to make 44 of 74 attempts.
Paul wasn’t the only one to struggle in this blowout victory, as the Clippers starting five converted only two of their 11 free throw attempts.
LA distanced themselves from the Wizards on the glass, where they held a 24 rebound advantage. Their starting front court (DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin) combined for 22 rebounds, more than 50% of the Wizards total. The same duo was remarkably efficient, knocking down 76% of their shots from the field.
Griffin was much more accurate with defenders around him (10/14 from the field) than when left along at the line (1/7). It was the seventh time in eight games in which BG has shot a higher percentage from the field than from the line. It was also the seventh consecutive game in which he has made more field goals than free throws attempted.
Reserve guard Mo Williams combined with Griffin, who averages 3.1 assists per game, for 16 assists. The Wizards tallied 17 as a team.
Despite 40 free throws attempted in this game, only two players did not miss one.
Lastly, the six made free throws by the Clippers was a new low in the NBA. Nine of the other eleven teams that lost last night made at least 15 free throws. How the Clippers can win by 26, and make 6/17 freebies is behind me.
Tonight’s game to watch is the Raptors and Heat.
