UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond cruised past Rhode Island, 68-49, Tuesday afternoon at the Robins Center.
The Spiders improved to 17-5, 5-3 while the Rams fell to 1-21, 0-7 all. The loss extended Rhode Island’s losing streak to 19 games, a school record.
Abby Oliver scored 23 points and tied a career-high with 10 field goals. Oliver also went 3-for-6 from long range. Rachael Bilney added 17 points and four assists, while Liz Brown recorded her first double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
The 15 rebounds were the most by a Spider since Genevieve Okoro had 16 boards against GW, Feb. 19, 2011.
Adding to the cause was two-sport phenom Becca Wann did not disappoint with an impressive line of eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Richmond recorded 19 assists to Rhody’s five and also had nine thefts.
The Spiders outrebounded Rhode Island 37-31 and improved to 13-2 in the all-time series.
Richmond is just one win away from tying last year’s total.
The Spiders host Saint Joseph’s in a game nationally televised on CBS Sports Network Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Robins Center.
