WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Andrea Hoover scored a career-high 22 points and tied a career high with eight rebounds, and senior Justine Raterman registered her 21st career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-56 Atlantic 10 road win over George Washington Saturday.
UD improves to 14-5 overall and 6-1 in A-10 play and have won eight of its last nine games, including four consecutive conference wins. The Colonials drop to 10-11 overall and 3-4 in league play.
Sophomore Cassie Sant contributed 14 points for the Flyers. Senior Elle Queen scored nine points, converting a career-high three treys. She also equaled her career high in assists with a game-best six helpers.
The Flyers jumped to a 7-0 lead to start the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first half. GW cut the lead to three, 20-17, with 6:16 to play in the half. Dayton held the Colonials to just two field goals in the first half, and held a 32-22 lead at the intermission.
Dayton came out strong in the second half and held its biggest lead of the afternoon, a 22-point advantage, 46-24, just four minutes into the second stanza.
GW never got within single digits, but did cut the lead to 10 (58-48) with 6:29 left to play in the game. UD used another late surge against the Colonials, who only played six, and outscored GW 16-8 in the final minutes.
The Flyers outscored GW in the paint, 36-24 and 25-11 on second chance points. UD also won the battle of the boards, 45-33. Dayton shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the field and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the free throw line. GW shot just 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the floor.
The Flyers play at Xavier on Sunday, Feb. 5 in a nationally-televised ESPNU game. Dayton has elected to open a third and FINAL bus for the trip to the Xavier game. This is available for season ticket holders only and there are a limited number of spaces available.
