NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton’s Justine Raterman and Andrea Hoover have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday for games played from Dec. 19 through Jan. 1. The UD duo is the first to sweep the A-10’s weekly awards since Dec. 28, 2008 when Fordham’s Randall Hurst and Becky Peters claimed the Conference’s weekly citations.
Raterman, a senior forward, was named Most Valuable Player of the Saint Peter’s College Holiday Classic and was also named to the All-Tournament Team of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic. She averaged 20.8 ppg and 8.5 rpg over Dayton’s last four games, including wins over Illinois (80-66), South Florida (73-63) and Binghamton (60-50). She tied a career-high with four steals, to go along with her game-high 22 points against the Fighting Illini on Dec. 20, before scoring a game-high 25 points against No. 24 Gonzaga on Dec. 21. She then sank a career-high seven 3-point field goals on her way to a season-best 26 points in Dayton’s 73-63 win over South Florida on Dec. 29. She moved to third all-time at UD in three-pointers made and currently has 162. Raterman closed out the week with her second double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-high 12 rebounds in the championship victory over Binghamton on Dec. 30. She currently has 802 career rebounds, moving her to sixth all-time at Dayton.
Hoover tied a career high with 16 points and four assists in Dayton’s 80-66 victory over Big Ten opponent Illinois in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic on Dec. 20. She also scored 13 points against No. 24 Gonzaga in the same tournament. Hoover was instrumental in Dayton’s 73-63 win over Big East opponent South Florida on Dec. 29 in the Saint Peter’s College Holiday Classic. She had 14 points, including converting 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 3:40 of the game which was clutch because the Bulls had got within three points with 3:59 to play in the game. Hoover tied her career high in rebounds twice with seven against Gonzaga on Dec. 21 and seven against Binghamton on Dec. 30 to help the Flyers win the Saint Peter’s College Holiday Classic. She was Dayton’s second leading scorer during the two tournaments averaging 11.8 points per game, while adding 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists each time out.
