ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Senior Megan Van Tatenhove recorded her fifth career double-double as St. Bonaventure (7-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Indiana (2-6) and never trailed en route to a 65-45 win over the Hoosiers Wednesday night at the Reilly Center.
Van Tatenhove – who recorded a double-double against the Hoosiers last year – finished with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Alaina Walker ended up one point shy of her first career double-double with a nine-point, 10-rebound performance.
Despite turning the ball over 10 times in the first half, the Bonnies were able to lock down at the defensive end in holding Indiana to a season-low 17 first-half points as they led 26-17 at the half. Bonaventure began the second half on a 6-0 spurt to open up a 15-point lead at 32-17, and led by double figures the rest of the night.
After the Bonnies started off 14-0 not even four minutes in, they led by double figures for all but two minutes the remainder of the game.
With the win, Bonaventure has now defeated three BCS schools (St. John’s, West Virginia) in the regular season for the first time in program history.
The victory was the 200th in the career of head coach Jim Crowley. The Keuka College graduate won 39 games at his alma mater from 1993-96 before taking over at Bona’s prior to the 2000-01 season where he has since won 161 games – 74 in the last 3+ years.
Van Tatenhove hit two 3-pointers, tying a career high, as the Bonnies finished 6-19 (31.6 percent) from behind the arc. Senior Jessica Jenkins knocked down three 3-pointers as part of her 13-point, three-assist evening.
Indiana received a double-double from Danilsa Andujar with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Aulani Sinclair added a team-best 13 points for the Hoosiers.
For the second straight game, the Brown and White held its opponent below 30-percent shooting from the field as the Hoosiers connected at just a 25.9-percent clip (15-58). The Bonnies held Binghamton to 26.4 percent (14-53) in a win over the Bearcats Saturday.
St. Bonaventure will return to action when it plays host to the University at Buffalo Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Bonnies will look to continue their stretch of 13 consecutive victories over Big 4 rivals in the opening game of a doubleheader with the men.
