- With the loss, Rhode Island drops to 1-9. Central Connecticut improves to 5-2.
- The Rams shot 38.1% from the field, connecting on 16-of-42 attempts while the Blue Devils connected at a 38.2% clip (21-55). Neither team was effective from long range as URI was 1-of-4 from beyond the arc and CCSU was 2-for-10.
- Rhody held a 35-29 rebounding advantage but the Blue Devils blocked seven URI shots on the night.
- The game featured 12 lead changes and two ties.
- CCSU scored 26 of their 50 points off of Rhode Island’s 25 turnovers. URI has now turned the ball over 25-or-more times in three of its last four games.
- The Blue Devils led 13-10 with 13:14 on the clock in the first half but Rhody netted eight consecutive while keeping CCSU off the board for the next seven and a half minutes to take a 18-13 lead with 5:39 left in the period. The teams traded baskets through the remainder of the half with Central Connecticut taking a 25-24 lead into the break.
- Rhody held CCSU scoreless for another 7+ minute span in the second half, and led 45-44 with just under two minutes to go in regulation. However, Central Connecticut came back with six unanswered points to steal the 50-45 win.
- Rivera netted a team-high 14 points for the Rams, marking the sixth time this season she scores in double figures and the fourth time she leads the team in points.
- Cloutier was URI’s top rebounder, matching her career-high seven boards.
- Cloutier also netted 13 points for URI while Corinne Coia added 12, including a perfect 4-for-4 showing from the foul line.
- Jaclyn Babe (15), Kirsten Daaman (12) and Jessica Babe (10) all scored in double figures for the Blue Devils.
What’s Next:
Rhody returns to the Ryan Center for a Saturday afternoon (2 p.m.) game vs. Quinnipiac. It will be the Rams’ first home game since Nov. 16. Rhode Island is 0-2 in the all-time series vs. the Bobcats. The last time the teams met (Nov. 18, 2000), Quinnipiac posted a 73-68 win in Hamden, Conn. Over her 24+ years as a head coach, Cathy Inglese has compiled a 3-0 record against Quinnipiac, winning each of her three games against the Bobcats as Boston College’s head coach.
