First Half Dooms Rams

Inside the Box Score:

  • With the loss, Rhode Island drops to 1-8. Fairfield improves to 4-3.
  • The Rams shot 42.9% from the field, connecting on 21-of-49 attempts while Fairfield connected at a 47.2% clip (25-53). URI netted five shots from beyond the arc, compared to Fairfield’s seven.
  • Fairfield held a 31-30 rebounding advantage and blocked two Rhode Island shots.
  • Rhode Island outscored Fairfield 35-33 in the second half, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome. It marked the third consecutive game where the Rams trailed by double-digits at the break but played evenly with their opponent through the second 20 minutes.
  • The Stags led by 19 (51-32) midway through the second frame but a 15-3 Rhody run cut the deficit to seven with 5:19 left to play.
  • Cloutier netted a game-high 16 points for the Rams. She has now led all players in scoring in back-to-back games.
  • Wallack pulled down a game-high seven rebounds while Rivera matched her career-best with a game-high six assists.
  • Rivera also shot 3-for-3 from long range.
  • Taryn Johnson (15), Desiree Pina (15) and Katelyn Linney (12) all scored in double figures for the Bears.


What’s Next:
Rhody travels to Central Connecticut for its seventh consecutive road game on Dec. 7. Tip off at Detrick Gym is set for 7 p.m. Rhode Island is 14-4 in the all-time series vs. CCSU, winning seven of the last eight meetings between the teams. The last time the Rams met the Blue Devils, Rhody posted a 64-53 win in New Britain, Conn. Over her 24+ years as a head coach, Cathy Inglese has compiled a 7-5 record against Central Connecticut, going 5-5 at Vermont, 1-0 at Boston College and 1-0 at URI.
