DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton (4-3) defeated Boston College 69-60 Sunday at UD Arena. Last year, the Flyers upset No. 25 Boston College 89-77 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. and did not disappoint in the rematch this year. The Flyers are 2-1 all-time against the Eagles (2-4).
Senior Justine Raterman scored a game-high 21 points for the Flyers. Freshman Andrea Hoover added 13 points, tying her career high. Senior Patrice Lalor dished a season-high eight assists and also pulled down a career-high and game-high eight rebounds.
Dayton held a 27-23 lead going into halftime. After a slow start and an injury to senior guard De’Sarae Chambers, the Flyers picked up the tempo and used their transition game to run away from the Eagles. Raterman had the hot hand and paced the Flyers in the first half with 11 points on three treys.
In the second half, Raterman again led the way by converting on multiple and-one plays, including sinking a spectacular bucket while seated on the ground.
Hoover stepped up to replace the injured Chambers and contributed 13 points, all coming in the second half. She also grabbed seven rebounds and shot 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
Cassie Sant came off the bench to tally nine points and created a strong presence in the post. The sophomore made all four of her field goal attempts.
As a team, the Flyers shot 40.7 percent from the field and won the battle on the boards 40-35.
Dayton is back in action this week as they face Wright State on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. ET at UD Arena.
