Mike Leach to Wazzu – I’m liking it! I listen to him on Sirius College and really enjoy his comments. I thought he did an outstanding job at Texas Tech and really was screwed with the James thing. Good to see him back in coaching.

The Red Sox hire Bobby Valentine to be their next manager. If anything this will be interesting. An ego can that can handle Red Sox nation. A baseball mind that rivals with the best. Experience that should command the respect of the Red Sox veterans.

Sounds good right? Right up until one of things above backfire. Should be interesting.

Pete – I like the hiring. Leach brings a wide open offensive style that should compete well with Oregon and co. Hopefully they give him time to rebuild.

I’ve never been a big fan of Bobby Valentine, so for that reason, he’s a much better fit as Red Sox manager than a difficult-to-dislike Terry Francona. 🙂

I think Valentine could be a great fit for the Red Sox, or he could be a disaster.

Agreed.. I don’t think there will be any middle ground for Valentine. I even worry if they get off to a rocky start if Red Sox nation starts calling for his firing. Then again everyone was upset when they hired Francona. That turned out pretty well.

Question is – is this a Lucchino hiring or a Ben Cherington hiring? If it is Lucchino hiring, what does it say about the GM position in Boston??

Chas, I hear you about Valentine vs Francona. I was a Yankees-hater for a long time and then came Derek Jeter. It was hard to hate Jeter’s Yankees, at least until Rodriguez came on board and put things back into perspective for me.

It will be interesting to see how Leach affects recruiting on the west coast. And can his Wash. St. teams put points on the board in the Pac 10…er…12 like they did in the Big 12 that now consists of 10?

Leach to Wazzou and RichRod to Arizona. The Pac-12 committee has to be loving this. You guys bring up a great point: I wonder how these hirings will affect recruiting. Wonder if Chip Kelly is worried at all. He gets a lot of California and Texas recruits. Arizona and Wazzou might be stepping in on those now.

Oh man, I almost forgot about RRod going to Arizona. Was he able to bring his file cabinet?
