There is no debate, LSU is the top team in college football. Every other position, however, is up in the air. Alabama edged out Arkansas by the smallest of margins, with Stanford and undefeated Houston not far off the pace. Oregon, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma all remained ranked, but dropped considerably after being upset. The Bulldogs from Georgia are proving that it isn’t how you start, it is how you finish, as they continue their ascent up our rankings. The SEC is here to stay folks, but will they get two teams in the title game?
Teams | Points |
LSU (7) | 105 |
Alabama | 95 |
Arkansas | 92 |
Houston | 81 |
Stanford | 81 |
Oklahoma State | 63 |
Virginia Tech | 63 |
Boise State | 48 |
Oregon | 46 |
Georgia | 44 |
Oklahoma | 30 |
South Carolina | 28 |
USC | 26 |
Kansas State | 21 |
Wisconsin | 13 |

So the PS consesus is that we want to see a rematch? I want to make sure that is correct because it sounds to me what we’ve been saying is no rematch. Or maybe that is just Drew and me. I gladly put Houston #2. If Arkansas beats LSU, we have a real problem. That means ‘Bama beat Arkansas but not LSU, while Arkansas can claim victory over LSU bt not ‘Bama. The solution? Houston versus Stanford! er, Oklahoma State! Or perhaps VA Tech! One thing is for certain: there sure aren’t a lot out there questioning the SEC’s depth anymore. *crickets* Seriously though, does anyone really want to see a rematch?
Chas says
I don’t really want a rematch, but I can’t say that anyone is more deserving of the #2 spot than Alabama.

Kyle, you must be one busy guy with all the posts you are doing. Good job!
Rey, re-match might be the consensus, but I voted Ark #2.
Only in 1971 did 3 teams from the same conference finish 1-2-3. The Big 8 had Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Colorado in the top 3 spots at the end of the season. They kicked some other “top” teams around in the bowl games, proving the validity of their ranking. Are we looking at the possibility again? If 2 SEC teams get in the championship game we won’t really know if the SEC teams are better than the top teams from other conferences. Nevertheless, it seems to be headed that way; just a question of what 2 teams. And despite what the pundits say, the doubt of validity will hang over the rankings for many people.

It’s funny, Alabama us in the best spot right now. They can just worry about beating Auburn and they will play in the NC.
If LSU loses to Arkansas but beats Georgia, how do the final rankings look?

Thanks for the kind words Pete, I try my best.
I agree completely with Chas, Alabama is the second best resume. The question is, if Arkansas can knock off LSU, they are 13 point dogs which seems high to me, who do we have playing in the title game?

Alright, I am with you fellas. In all seriousness, I don’t like Alabama being #2, but after this weekend – what are the choices?
I am curious to see what happens if Arkansas beats LSU. I would have to think they jump Alabama, But would LSU drop past Alabama even though they beat the Crimson Tide.
I have another question. If Oregon had beaten USC – would that win have jumped them over Alabama? Would a win over Georgia South count for more then a win over USC? Starting to see the SEC bias and it is troubling.
