DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men’s basketball team (2-1) topped the UNCW Seahawks (0-2) 74-49 on Saturday at UD Arena.
Senior UD forward Chris Johnson scored a season-best 19 points and had six rebounds. Redshirt junior guard Kevin Dillard added a season-best 18 points in the win. Junior center Matt Kavanaugh led the Flyers with eight rebounds.
UNCW was paced by junior forward Keith Rendleman. Rendleman notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Adam Smith also scored in double figures adding 10 points for the Seahawks.
The Flyers forced 20 turnovers and converted 22 points on turnovers. UD’s bench also chipped in 24 points in the win.
Dayton opened the game with a 21-6 lead through the first 10 minutes of the half. The Flyers shot 40 percent from the field, while holding UNCW to just 28 percent in the first stanza. UD led the Seahawks 39-18 heading into the half.
UD’s offense never relented, stretching its lead to 30 at the mid-point of the second half. The Flyers finished the game at 41 percent from the field and held the Seahawks to 35 percent.
The Flyers will spend their Thanksgiving in Orlando, Fla. when they compete in the Old Spice Classic at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. Dayton tips-off its tournament slate on Thanksgiving in a 7 p.m. ET matchup against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on ESPN 2.
