BALTIMORE — The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s basketball teams will be on television a minimum of nine times throughout the 2011-2012 regular-season, and all non-televised home games will be broadcast live and free of charge online.
All Loyola home games will be streamed for free on ‘Hounds Unleashed, a part of www.LoyolaGreyhounds.com. Fans can view those games ontheir computers and many smart-phone devices.
Other games may be added to the television broadcast schedule at a later date.
The men’s team opens its season on Friday, November 11, when it travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a game at Wake Forest that will be broadcast on ESPN3.
ESPN3, which will also be home to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Game of the Week, is ESPN’s multi-screen network available through an affiliated Internet or video providers online via WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and on ESPN on Xbox LIVE.
Less than a week after the men open the season at WakeForest, the Greyhounds will play cross-town foe UMBC at 7 p.m. in front of a regional television audience. The game will be broadcast by MASN, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
The Greyhounds’ final non-conference game to be televised will be on Thursday, December 22, when they head to Lexington, Ky., for a date at Rupp Arena against college basketball’s all-time winningest team, Kentucky.
Loyola makes its 2012 debut on television Friday, January 13, in Bridgeport, Conn., in a national ESPNU broadcast against Fairfield.
The Greyhound women will hit the air nationally a week later when their game at defending MAAC Champion Marist will be televised on Friday, January 20, on ESPNU. The game is a rematch of the 2011 MAAC Championship Game.
Loyola’s men host an ESPNU broadcast on Friday, February 3, when Rider visits Reitz Arena, and the Greyhound men and women will host a televised doubleheader one week later.
The women will take on Iona on Friday, February 10, onESPN3, and the men follow against the Gaels in an ESPNU broadcast.
Two days later, Sunday, February 12, the men are back in front of the cameras to host Fairfield on ESPN3.
The men have the possibility of two additional ‘wildcard’ games to be picked up on the MAAC package. The Wednesday, February 15, contest at Marist is one of four conference games that evening that could be selected to fill one ESPN3 slot.
On Friday, February 24, the night Loyola plays at Rider, two slots will be filled, one on ESPN2 and another on ESPNU. Both ‘wildcard’ games will be chosen in the weeks leading up to the contests.
The MAAC Championships, which will be played at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., are also part of the MAAC television package. The women’s semifinals and championship game, and all of the men’sgames, will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
In addition to distributing this year’s television package, the MAAC today announced that it has signed a six-year rights agreement with ESPN.
Game times for most Loyola contests will be announced in the next several days.
