3 out of 4 series going to a game 5. What do you think is going to happen?

  2. Gino says

    October 6, 2011 at 7:55 am

What do I think? or What do I hope?

Actually neither matters since in my opinion a single game is a coin toss anyway. So I’m tossing.

    Phillies Vs. Cardinals
    Heads: Cards win
Tails: Phillies lose, I mean win. (I guess you know what I’m hoping).
Heads it is. Cards win, I dont have score since that gets messy with the coin toss.

    Diamondbacks Vs. Brewers
    Heads: D’Backs
    tails: Brewers
    Heads again.

    Yankees Vs. Tigers
    Heads: Tigers win
    Tails: Yankees lose
    Heads again.

Not sure if my coin is a fair coin. Well my coin, 2 headed or not, thinks that’s what will happen and I’m sticking to it.
On a serious note, It’ll be 3 great games and we’ll see what happens.

Kyle – you beat me to the punch. Could MLB have drawn this up any better? Really Tampa was a hit or two from making this a sweep for all 4 series going 5 games.

Tonight comes down to pitchers making their first postseason start in the playoffs – in Game 5. I think the Yankees have the edge in the matchup an will win.

Gotta take a look at the others before I make a call

  4. Chas says

Gino, no way all three of those coin flips are coming up heads. 😉

Smitty, technically Fister and Nova are making their first postseason starts, but not really. Both of them “started” the continuation of game one.

Kyle, for the record, the Phillies are among the top five teams that I dislike, so I’m hoping you get to say “I told you so” to me. 🙂

Brewers playing in Milwaukee? The Crew will “roll out the barrel” plenty for that game.

St. Louis beating Philly is crazy. So is St. Louis going five with Philly. Cards win?

Mother nature wins the Yanks-Tigers series – another notch on Rey’s Heisman watch.

  6. Casey says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:11 am

    Halladay. Right?

  7. Chas says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:18 am

OK Casey, I’ll bite. What does “Mother nature wins the Yanks-Tigers series” mean? The Yankees got lucky that the game one rainout forced them to use a starting pitcher they dreaded using and he turned in a better performance than their ace?

  8. Smitty says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:30 am

They came in relief in Game 1 to complete the suspended Game 1.

Either way this is a huge start for both pitchers. Don’t know enough about Pfister but Nova has the edge in this match up. Playing at home and with a potent offense behind him – Nova has the edge.

Who is pitching for the Phillies?

With the Phillies starting pitching and at home, I have a hard time seeing the Phillies lose this one. Is Carpenter pitching? That might change my mind. If the Phillies lose, is Charlie Manuel in trouble?

  9. Chas says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:31 am

Right Smitty, it was technically a relief appearance, but for all intents and purposes, it was a start. Hence my use of quotations marks around the word started.

  10. Casey says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:35 am

Didn’t mean much by the comment. Both teams would have preferred to use their aces more than mother nature allowed.

  11. Smitty says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:42 am

Amazing how a rough post season start by Sabathia has turned critics against him. All season Sabathia has been praised for being a workhorse. He loses a post season start and he is tired, overworked and over weight. Talk about fickle!

  12. Gino says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:51 am

    Chas,
small sample size, 2 headed coin, what can I say?

    Phillies Vs. Cards
    Halladay Vs. Carpenter
    In other words:
    Sunset Vs. Sunrise (both good)
Yes I get that Halladay is more like a Caribbean sunset while Carpenter is a Midwestern Sunrise. But you know what sometimes it rains in the Caribbean.

The point of my absolutely adding nothing to the discussion analogy is that I think its imposible to call this game. At 50.000 feet Phillies are a much better team with a Pitching Rotation who’s salary is probably more than the GDP of my country.

But in a single game, I’m only good to call this one with a 2 headed coin toss.

  13. Chas says

    October 6, 2011 at 9:54 am

I didn’t read any of that said about Sabathia, Smitty. Not that I’m doubting you. I guess it has to do with the fact I read more blogs than mainstream media at this point. You guys need some Yankee blog recommendations? Just kidding.

Seriously, though, who’s calling him tired, overweight, etc.? The New York Post?

  14. Gino says

    October 6, 2011 at 10:03 am

On a more serious note I think the Brewers-D’backs game will be decided by Ian Kennedy, much more than their offense, and much more than Gallardo or the Brewer’s offense.

So eventhough they’re in Wisconsin, I think the D’Backs have to feel good going in. They have the momentum and also have their big guy going.

I can see both the Yankees and the Phillies tanking it in game 5. Every now and then a big team will either short circuit, be overconfident, or just outright lose when they should win. I’d like to see the Cards win, the Brewers win, and no real preference on the Tigers/Yanks.

    Has been fun watching though.

    GINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahaha! HELMET STICKER!

  17. Smitty says

Chas they were dogging Sabathia on the Mike and Mike show yesterday. Plus local radio here has been knocking him as well. Yes this is Yankee country here and it makes my ears hurt. 🙂

    Casey,
I’m a Geographic Information Systems Consultant. I just have to throw in some geography.

    Chas,
My mom called him overweight. And she only sat down to watch an inning or so. Just saying, he’s kinda big.

    Smitty,
I thought they were saying the opposite of how the umpire wasn’t calling strikes. Other than Greeny praising Verlander for throwing the ball down the middle. I think the criticism of that game was mostly toward the umpire.

  19. bill ribas says

    October 6, 2011 at 10:42 am

Casey, no “Hallady in Cambodia” jokes?

  20. Casey says

    Hahahaha. Helmet Sticker!

  21. Chas says

    October 6, 2011 at 11:39 am

Gino, yeah, of course Sabathia’s overweight. I guess I was really asking Smitty who’s criticizing him. Most people leave the weight issue alone with him, because it doesn’t really affect his performance. This time, it sounds like they were saying it does.

By the way, I didn’t realize how funny Gino can be. You’ve got some competition, Bill.

  22. Smitty says

    October 6, 2011 at 12:02 pm

I took the conversations like it was criticism. But then again, Boston radio last week was commenting on Beckett becoming overweight during the season. Maybe it is just the TV.. 🙂

Tiger Woods is back….again. Interesting to see him playing in the fall PGA series. He has also had a month to work on his game. I am interested to see how he does.

  23. bill ribas says

I remember a long time ago that pitchers can have a little extra weight, and it won’t throw off their game. Sabathia looks like he’s a big fella fer sure, and I don’t think it hurts him, it’s just the media in NYC is vicious (kind of like that really hard grading teacher you had back in school that never cut you a break). So I’m not surprised the media jumped on him. It is kind of interesting to see them all cuddle Burnett like a puppy because he pitched 5 innings.

All I’m really glad for so far is not having to listen to Joe Buck bellowing out of my tee vee speakers. That’s a relief.

  24. Smitty says

Did anyone else Brett Farve’s interview and subsequent back hand compliment of Aaron Rodgers? It actually made laugh and I realized that as he spends more time on the tractor – the bigger Rodgers’s legacy grows in Green Bay. Gotta be driving him nuts.

Maybe Brett and Drew Bledsoe can start a therapy group

  25. Chas says

    October 6, 2011 at 1:11 pm

5 2/3 innings, Bill. That’s, like, almost 6. And Burnett’s in good shape…what’s more important than that? 🙂

  26. bill ribas says

    October 6, 2011 at 1:57 pm

Chas, it was the way they were describing it, lke he had just bounced back from being a homeless person to redeemng himself, as if they were surprised he would ever throw the ball again. Maybe it was the way I heard it, maybe the lack of sleep lately is playing tricks on me. It just came across as funny. Probably some C list sports wannabee tee vee guy trying to impress his boss.

  27. Chas says

    October 6, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Yeah, I was just messing with you, Bill. Burnett’s performance the other night was better than most people expected. Let’s leave it at that.

  28. Chas says

    October 6, 2011 at 2:21 pm

Smitty, based on the way you’re comparing Favre with Drew Bledsoe, does that mean Aaron Rodgers is already better than Tom Brady…because Favre sure as heck was better than Bledsoe. 🙂

  29. Casey says

    October 6, 2011 at 2:35 pm

Bill – I know what you’re saying. Guys like Mickey Lolich and Tom Seaver – they were getting their money’s worth out of the post-game buffet table. Doesn’t make them bad people. They just come to mind with that discussion.

Casey, you saying I’m fat? I think that’s where this is headed. Not that I’m not, I’m just saying.

“Kyle, for the record, the Phillies are among the top five teams that I dislike, so I’m hoping you get to say “I told you so” to me. ” That deserves more than 1 🙂 … more will be in the way should my Cards pull it off …

Im going with Cardinals 4-2 (bias, ill admit it), Yanks 5-2 (Wish i could pick the tigers here) and the BrewCrew 6-5

  33. Kyle Soppe says

    October 6, 2011 at 3:46 pm

Smitty – Favre is just grumpy in his old age. Im as big of a Favre fan as there is, but this is a little bit of jealousy. Rodgers has talent around him, sure. But is Jordy Nelson this good? or is it Rodgers that makes him talented? Favre always had pretty good talent around him (even a running game that Rodgers simply doesn’t have) and he only managed one ring. Through the last 2 years or so, its roders’ world, and we are just living in it

  34. Casey says

    October 6, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Not to mention that Favre had a Reggie White-led defense keeping the games close.
