BALTIMORE – Former Loyola University Maryland standout Omari Isreal was named the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations today, Head Coach Jimmy Patsos announced.
Isreal, who played two years at Loyola form 2006-2008, will handle many administrative responsibilities for the program such as travel and academic coordination.
“We are very happy that Omari, a part of the Loyola basketball family, is a part of our staff,” Patsos said. “He was a great player here at Loyola, and this is a good opportunity for Omari to start his career.”
Isreal arrived at Loyola in January 2006 after spending 1-1/2 seasons at the University of Notre Dame. After satisfying his NCAA year of residency as a transfer student-athlete, Isreal immediately became an impact player for the Greyhounds.
He started the Greyhounds final 23 games of 2006-2007 and averaged 9.1 points and a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game. He helped the Greyhounds to an 18-13 record and berth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinals.
As a senior, Isreal started 27 of 30 games and averaged just over 27 minutes per contest. He scored 7.3 points and was second on the team with 5.6 rebounds. He again helped the Greyhounds reach the MAAC Semifinals where he pulled down 18 rebounds against eventual conference titlist and NCAA Second Round participant Siena. The 18 rebounds were, at the time, the third-most in MAAC Championships history.
“I am very appreciative of this opportunity to join Coach Patsos and the Loyola basketball staff,” Isreal said. “This is a chance for me to start my basketball career, and I look forward to being part of the teamagain.”
Isreal graduated from Loyola in May 2009 with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. Since graduation, he played professionally for the Bochum Astro Stars in the German Pro B League, and he has been a coach at the Hoop Group HG Elite Basketball Camp.
