I have a question for Wally. If Tom Brady keeps this up ; does he crack your Top 5 QB list?
Wallysays
If the Pats win it all this year, we can talk. When was the last time Brady won a playoff game? Seems like eons ago. Was it the AFC championship game before they lost to NYG in the Super Bowl? And before he laughed at the suggestion that the Giants could hold them to 17 points or so?

Question for anyone who may have caught a glimpse of the Yankmee game last night. Is CC Sabathia the most overweight professional athlete you have ever seen? (Excluding sumo wrestlers, of course). Holy human eclipse of the batter, Batman! When CC was poised to fire it home with his 52 inch gut hanging over his belt, the entire homeplate area was obstructed. He must weigh at least 350. He makes David Wells look like an aerobics instructor.
Well, I’m pretty sure there are some NFL linemen who have him beat, but I get your point.
Wallysays
Okay … maybe … but NFL linemen are supposed to be well over 300 lbs. Sabathia is just a huge tub of goo. Great pitcher nonetheless. But could he be one of the all-time greats if he cut down on the cheeseburgers and twinkees? What if he was “only 270”?

Just saw a film clip of Bartolo Colon … Add him to the fat list. And the really bad haircut list.

Smitty, Kyle, Chas … Any way to get some stats on all-time winning percentages for QBs in all post season playoff games?
Wallysays
Or maybe career QB rating in playoff games (min 10 games) would be better.
Casey – I couldn’t agree more with Seth Davis. If we go along with the NCPA assumption that a Texas football player is worth $500,000. Okay, pay them the $500,000 like a “professional athlete”.
Then charge them for tuition, board, travel, food, hotel accommodations, use of athletic facilities and in the end. Let’s see where that ends up.
And like Seth Davis said, if they are using the argument of fair market value – how does the starting QB and a bench warmer get the same value? They shouldn’t.
Crossword Petesays
Otto Graham probably the best ever playoff record for QBs. Check it out sometime. I don’t follow NFL, but if the numbers I have heard for Brady in the first 2 weeks are accurate, it’s hard for ANYBODY to keep him out of the top 5 all-time. Playoff winning percentages are achieved because one has the best “team” and only the best “team” wins a high percentage of games against all the other best “teams”. I am not sure that Brady has always had the best “team” behind (or in front of) him, but he can overcome that in many regular season games. Not so in the playoffs, but as I said, in light of recent stats you have to rank him there, especially since he has not been a “flash in the pan”!
Wallysays
Quarterback rating, or some other statistical measure, is the right way to evaluate this … or to at least answer the question I am trying to answer: How have QBs performed in playoff games (including Super Bowls and Championship Games, of course) when it REALLY matters the most??? Winning is obviously important, but just like baseball pitchers, it doesn’t tell the complete story.

Here’s a statistically based evaluation, but I bet it doesn’t include the Otto Graham days.

I don’t always agree with Seth Davis, but this article hits the mark: https://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/seth_davis/09/21/Branch.rebuttal/index.html?sct=cb_t11_a0
Wally,
This is what I found so far for recent players. Here are the 3 best:
Player Team Games Record Percentage
Ben Roethlisberger Steelers 11 9-2 .818
Tom Brady Patriots 19 14-5 .737
Peyton Manning Colts 19 9-10 .473

Wonder where Johnny U rates, too.
