**From the Onion** – NEW YORK—In a controversial decision to crack down on gaudy displays of jubilation, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced plans Wednesday to fine fans thousands of dollars for celebrating excessively in the stands. “Offending individuals engaged in elaborate rituals that involve props, choreographed dances, or leaving their feet will face stiff monetary penalties,” said Goodell, adding that every taunt, chant, cardboard sign, and chest bump will be reviewed by the league. “The NFL simply will not tolerate poor sportsmanship, and any spectator committing extreme celebrations, such as collaborating with others to display a cardboard capital “D” and a picket fence, or removing articles of clothing after a touchdown, will receive a $30,000 fine and be ejected from the game.” Goodell also told reporters teams would receive a 15-yard penalty anytime a fan gets out of line by clapping too loudly or shouting complaints about a referee’s call
Don’t look now, but the Angels are 2 1/2 out in the AL West. It appears the Rangers have a slightly easier schedule the rest of the way, but the season ends with a three game series between the two teams…in Anaheim. We just might get one pennant race, after all.

Chas … Who’s the better team … who do you expect to prevail? (I know Rangers have the advantage being up 2.5 at the moment … but that could change in a week … just ask the Brewers and Pirates … and the Giants). Maybe a better question is … head to head, clean slate, who do you like more?
Man … the Angels have some fast players … Bourjos is reportedly the fastest player in baseball and they just brought up another kid who’s supposedly faster than him. I saw Bourjos turn a basic single into a double vs the WhiteSox and then saw him leg out a triple and I could not believe how fast (and almost effortless) it seemed for him.
I think Texas is a better team overall, so I think they’ll hang on. But, if it comes down to that last series and Weaver and Haren are lined up, I might like the Angels.
Two good recollections of 9/11 during this tenth “anniversary” (I hate using that word to refer to something so tragic, but what are the options?). The first is a video about a former lacrosse player and his heroism in the towers that day. The other is a piece about former athletes fighting back on flight 93.
Observation from today’s US Open final. Novak Djokovic was assessed a fault penalty for taking excessive time between serves. A fault during a championship match to the #1 player in the world? Why can’t baseball gives a strike to batters who take too much time or pitchers get assessed a ball for too much time taken?

Funny stuff, Bill.
