OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA – Senior Earl Pettis scored a team-best 15 points and junior Devon White added 13 to lead the La Salle men’s basketball team past the University of Ottawa, 75-61, on Sunday night in the first of three exhibition games during the Explorers’ trip to Canada.
Sophomore Tyreek Duren chipped in with 11 points and three assists while classmate Taylor Dunn and freshman Jerrell Wright each added eight.
Head coach Dr. John Giannini spread around the playing time with no player seeing more than 28 minutes of action. Nine players played at least 16 minutes.
The Explorers opened up a 34-24 halftime lead over the GeeGees. Ottawa cut the lead to six but would get no closer.
La Salle shot 46% from the field and held a 32-26 advantage on the boards.
Gill Vikas scored 20 points for Ottawa to lead all scorers. Gabriel Gonthier added 16 for the hosts.
The Explorers improve to 1-0 on the three-game trip to Canada. Tomorrow night La Salle will take on the Carleton Alumni team followed by a contest on Tuesday versus seven-time Canadian National Champion Carleton.
