hahaha. he may be guilty, but i dont think itll end up in a suspension. seems like its going to be his word against someone elses
Wallysays
Brewers are starting to create some space … now 3.5 games ahead of STL. Meaningful trend or random movement?
Other close races:
Giants or D-backs? (I say Giants)
Rangers or Angels? (Rangers)
Tigers or Indians? (Tigers)
Won’t ask about RedSox or Yankmees … they’re both in playoffs anyway.
After last night’s nightmare (18 runs by NY), I’m throwing in the towel on the WhiteSux. Can’t hit, can’t pitch, just … can’t. SPOY goes to Adam Dunn (Sucky Player of the Year). I don’t think a player could do any worse by trying to fail. How is it possible to hit .160 for an entire season? And we used to have fan fave Jim Thome. NEOY goes to Kenny Williams (Non-Executive of the Year). See Adam Done and Alex Rios.
A little bias, but ill take the Cards … other than that, youre on the money. Although of the picks, i have the least confidence in the Tigers … BoSox win that division, they are the more talented team, and ill bet on talent all day

Kyle … near term bad news for the Cards …. the Brewers are here in Houston to play the DisAstros, so they will likely win 3 in a row this weekend. (I’m going to the game Saturday night). To be fair, the DisAstros have recently played well, as the infusion of all these “kids” into the lineup has created some energy … I think they just took 2 of 3 from Cinci.
I heard on ESPN radio this morning that the Yankmees completed their four game sweep of the WhiteSux without walking anyone! If true, THAT’S INCREDIBLE!! Anyway, why do you think Boston is more talented than NYY? Not sure I see a clear RedSox advantage like you do.
Wallysays
Where’s Tiger??? I heard somewhere that Tiger Woods is back, but it appears that rumors of his return have been greatly exaggerated. Tee hee 🙂
Sorry about spacing on the WAI this week guys. I’ll be back next week. Thanks for the pinch hit, Wally.
I think the Red Sox are better on paper than the Yankees only if John Lackey pitches as well as he’s capable of and/or Clay Buchholz returns from injury. If both of those things happen, Sox are clearly better and just as scary as they looked when the season started. If Buchholz doesn’t return and Lackey continues to be as inconsistent as he’s been, I think the Yankees are a little better.
Everyone’s expecting the Yankees’ starting pitching to come back down to earth. That’s everyone including me, but it’s hard to argue with results, and all of those guys (except Burnett) keep pitching well.
Wally – I cannot answer your previous question concerning the Tribe. I have no idea who these young guys are. All I know is that none of them are even close to batting .300 (except Asdrubal, who should only e referred to be first name because the enunciation unintentional comedy is wonderful), yet you can turn on Indians game on any given night and see a slugfest, then suffer through 5 straight games of 0-3 run productions. I guess that is youthful potential??? Even so, their 5-9 hitters are horrrrrrible). I don’t know, but way too many games won in the last 2 innings and too close a run differential for me to be positive about their taking over the top of Central again. The Tigers are too well managed and have the offensive consistency (to me) to close the deal. I guess they have a pretty good pitcher, too – so I’ve heard…
I heard a great line over the weekend that I thought was great. Adam Dunn is posed to have a higher strikeout total then batting average.
When has that ever happened?
Wallysays
Or similarly, Smitty, when has a guy’s batting average not equaled half his weight??? Dunn’s on pace for that great distinction, too.
OK … I’m asserting he weighs 340, which might be a slight exaggeration … but if you’ve seen him try to fill in for Konerko at 1B, he can barely bend over.
Either way you spin it – it doesn’t look good for Dunn’s career continuing past this year.
Dave Kingman never looked this bad.
Wallysays
Yes, Kingman was certainly a good example of a guy who whiffed a whole lot, but he was also usually good for a .225 average and 25-30 HRs. And he roamed left field … so he could obvisouly run circles around Adam Done.
Wallysays
Yanks – RedSox. What a national treasure. Takes nearly 4 full hours to play 9 innings of 2-2 baseball. Two to two. Four hours. Good teams but pathetic pace of play. Hey boys … Let’s make sure those batting gloves are secure …. After EVERY frickin’ pitch!!!! Hey, Yuke, make sure you sniff some pine tar before going’ up there. Call time out if ya have to
I hear ya, Wally, but don’t just blame the batters. Josh Beckett is notoriously one of the slowest working pitchers in baseball. Also, let’s not forget about the fact that both Beckett and Garcia came out after throwing roughly 100 pitches, and they lasted a total of 11 innings. So, a big reason these games take long is because the Yanks and Sox are the most disciplined hitting teams in baseball. That might not be exciting, but you can’t fault the way their hitters approach the game.
By contrast, the White Sox drew zero walks in a four-game series against the Yanks this past week. That’s just pathetic.
Oh, and by the way, this season notwithstanding, Adam Dunn is a MUCH better player than Dave Kingman (and his barely over .300 career OBP) was.
Wallysays
I hear ya, Chas. It’s not just one thing that causes such marathons. I just wish every pitcher worked as fast as Mark Buehrle. Even the broadcasters were bemoaning the 4 hour mark as the game was going into extras. Seriously, though, 4 hours for a 2-2 nine innings is just pathetic. In the NL, they easily get to that point in 2 hours and 25 mins.
Over a career, yes, Dunn is better than Kingman. But Dunn’s 2011 season has to be one of the worst single seasons ever recorded by a hitter. I know you have the numbers on this. Lucky WhiteSox 🙁
Wallysays
Chas … Casey … see what ESPN is doing? Sort of a “Mt Rushmore of sports by city”!
Anyone want to bet A-Rod is guilty? Oh wait, is that gambling too? My bad.
