The Mets are reportedly shopping Carlos Beltran to a contender. So who will get him … Phillies? Red Sox? Giants? Pirates??? Other?

I wish my woeful White Sox would get Beltran even if just for the 3 month rental. Despite not playing well all season and of course hardly scoring any runs, the ChiSox are just 4 1/2 out of first in a division where there is not one very strong team. One more 2-1 or 3-2 loss and Ozzie’s head is gonna explode.

Ozzie’s head almost exploded last night when he got hit by a foul ball.

Ozzie’s head is always one event away from exploding, regardless of the situation. I like the Angels as a landing spot for Beltran. Wherever he goes, i believe this year is last real productive one, so hopefully he can get someone into the playoffs. He wont go inter division, but the Braves could use a centerpiece in that offense, behind that pitching.

Casey – the Nancy Brown mentioned in the article is my sister, and her two kids as well. What a larf.

I went to Eastview for that dog and pony show. packed like sardines.

Missed the beginning of that the other night, thanks. Pretty funny with the cab shoot.

Call me crazy, but I just went to two DisAstros games … Tue & Wed vs the Nationals. (Hey, let’s just say “the price was right” when it came to tickets). Anyway, the games were actually good and the Astros won two close ones!

Anyway, what I take away from it has nothing to do with Houston. Washington’s Michael Morse is largely an unknown gem, despite being an All Star this year. I don’t know where he’s been the past few years, but the 29 yr old first basemen is built like an NFL tight end and just punishes the ball even when making outs. This year, he’s hitting .312 with an OPS of .914. And he looks like he takes the game pretty seriously as I was watching his pre-game routine. Could be a real star in the making … a somewhat late-bloomer. He was with Seattle … not sure what the issue was there. His stats seemed pretty decent … maybe he was oft-injured or something

Here’s one that might generate some discussion. Last night on sports talk radio, they asked the question: in the history of individual sports has there ever been a bigger fall from grace than Tiger Woods? Mike Tyson immediately came to mind as a comparison. Just in terms of on-field performance, that is. Of course, the off-field stuff had something to do with it, but the end result is what’s important here.

Both guys seemed on the way to being the greatest of all-time in their respective sports, but Tyson definitely came up short. I realize Tiger Woods can still rebound, though.

Shoeless Joe Jackson and his pals, maybe?

    Good one, Casey! 🙂

Chas … building off Bill’s nomination of the Black Sox ….

    — there’s Pete Rose and his ban from baseball,
    — Mark McGwire went from baseball’s favorite son & fun guy and certain HoFer to a party punchline and he won’t ever get into the HoF
    — Magic Johnson had quite a fall from the HIV episode
    — OJ Simpson … how big a fall was that?!?!?

I suppose somewhere in there is a special category for Lenny Dykstra.

Sure, there are plenty of guys we can talk about whose fall from grace came after they were done playing. I’m talking about guys whose careers came to a screeching halt. But, I’ve got to seriously question you lumping Magic Johnson in with O.J. Simpson?!?

  16. Casey says

    July 22, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Maybe I am forgetting something, but I don’t remember Magic really falling. The guy has his own movie company now. Ddin’t he get MVP of the subsequent All-Star game?

  17. Wally says

    July 23, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Yep, that all star MVP award sure is meaningful.

Cannot believe that came from your keyboard. Just shakin’ my head. C’mon man!

Wally – either you are just ready to bash people or you didn’t bother to read Casey’s post. It was not about how meaningful the MVP from the All-Star game. It is the fact that after Magic’s HIV diagnosis – he played in the game and was awarded the MVP. Players intentionally passed him the ball so he could rack up points. The reporters voted him the MVP. Why? Because they loved him. There was no fall out or fall from grace. He was still a fan favorite and still a favorite amongst the fans.

There was no fall from grace.

As for Tiger Woods – let’s not talk a Fall from grace until his career is over. He is going to win tournaments again and he will win a couple more majors. Remember that Woods had a Top 5 finish at the 2011 Masters, while injuring his knee in that Final Round at Augusta.

He isn’t done and firing his caddie doesn’t mean he has fallen any further.

Let’s not forget guys like Kobe Bryant and Michael Vick who have been able to resurrect their careers. Let’s wait and see how everything plays out for Tiger.

Wally, were you struck with a curious case of tinnitus at 4:19pm on Saturday?
