Manhattan Men’s Basketball Sophomore Guard Earns Regional Accolade after Averaging 16.3 Points in 2010-2011
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan College sophomore George Beamon (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) was named to the All-Metropolitan Third Team as announced on Tuesday at the 78th MET Basketball Writers Association Awards Banquet in Tarrytown, N.Y., the oldest annual college basketball awards reception in the United States. Beamon ranked third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in scoring averaging 16.3 points starting in 30 of 31 appearances for the Jaspers.
Beamon led Manhattan in scoring 18 times and he delivered 28 double-digit scoring performances during the 2010-2011 season. He averaged 6.1 rebounds per contest and was 10th in the MAAC with a 73.8% free-throw percentage. Beamon, who also earned 2011 All-MAAC Third Team honors, posted a team-high eight 20-point performances, including a career-high 35 point effort in a victory over Siena on Feb. 13.
The 6’4” guard from Roslyn, N.Y. led Manhattan with 45 steals and ranked fourth in the league averaging 1.5 per game. Beamon harbored a 43.7% field goal mark and was third in the MAAC logging 36.8 minutes per game.
