    I wish it was Friday.

Okay … add this to our “Games of Intrigue”: Spurs at Bulls tonight on TNT. Now that the Bulls have emerged as an “Eastern Conference contender”, I’m always anxious to see them tested in games vs the NBA’s “Top 5”, and the Spurs are certainly one of those. It’s the last game before the All-Star break, so I expect something close to playoff intensity in this one. Should be interesting. GO BULLS ! 😉

Is there a better point guard than Derrick Rose in the NBA right now??? What a game he had last night!! He’s been carrying the Bulls on his back all season … and he’s only 6’1″. He’s incredibly quick off the dribble, can really jump, he’s got all the shots … dunks, tear drops, outside jumpers. At times he can get a little careless with the ball, but he’s still learning. But what a talent! I’m sure he’s gonna get some MVP votes this year.

Anybody awake out there?? Probably writing to myself again.

ANYWAY, this one’s on baseball and specifically, the Albert Pujols saga in St Louis … which I hope becomes a Chicago-based saga sometime between now and this time in 2012. Great article by Mike Wilbon, a fellow Chicagoan who, like Wally, is not shy about his passion for Chicago teams …. nor telling them what to do. A good read on why the Cubs MUST go after Albert.

It’s that black hole period between the end of football and the start of baseball season, Wally. This just proves that nobody really cares about basketball. 😉

I’ve been reading a lot about what teams have the wherewithal to sign Pujols, besides the Cardinals, of course. The Cubs and Angels seem to be at the top of the list. The Cubs only have Carlos Pena signed for one year, and the Angels could move Kendry Morales to DH.

Other possibilities include the Giants (although they have Aubrey Huff signed through 2012), Rangers (might be scared off by their A-Rod experience), and Dodgers (but their ownership situation would have get ironed out).

It will be a unique situation that such an iconic player will be available and neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox will be involved…although you can never truly count out the Yankees, and we don’t know for sure, as of yet, if the Sox have signed A-Gone to an extension…plus they’ll have Ortiz coming off the books, so they could always have a Gonzalez-Pujols rotation at 1B/DH. But, I doubt it.

The Yankees will enter the Pujols ‘stakes. They have Posada as their DH right now. YOu know they want to do better. Same equation as for the Sox – Pujols and Texiera will rotate.

You’re right, Casey, that the Yankees have almost the same situation as the Red Sox. It’s just a matter of whether or not they want to deal with pushing Posada out of the picture. When it comes down to it, they’ll likely be willing to make a tough decision like that…especially if they’re afraid of the Red Sox involvement.

I honestly think both the Yanks and Sox will stay out of the Pujols sweepstakes, but only if they perceive that the other is not involved…a difficult assumption to make.

Well …. that would suck. At least from my POV.

Speaking of Chas’s TIC comment about basketball … it is hard to believe we are still 3 full weeks away from Selection Sunday. Seems like it should be this Sunday. But of course we’re only a little more than 2 weeks away from the start of the conference tournaments. OK … I feel better.

I hate the NBA’s All-Star weekend … just further points out the black hole period we’re in.

You may not hear from me starting Sunday for about a week … will be in a place far, far away … not sure i get get the net. I need a break from you guys anyway 😉

To clarify … what would suck is if the Yankmees or Saux got Pujols. The Cubbies HAVE TO go after him. NO BRAINER! Of course, the Cubs have been owned and managed by “No Brainers” for decades!

I’d prefer to see Pujols remain with the Cards and reach the same status with that franchise as Stan Musial.

I don’t mind if he stay with the Cardinals … feels right … can’t see how they could let him get away in the first place. I bet they’ll come to an agreement to lock up Pujols for the rest of his career. BUT … in the event there’s an impasse, the Cubs BETTER GO FOR IT !!!

Hoooooray! Success on the gravatar swaparooo. I’m officially in hoops season now.

It is hard to argue against Derrick Rose’s numbers.
