Okay, I’ve seen Super Bowl tickets listed for up to $250,000 (a luxury booth), and while I don’t have that kind of money, even if I did, I don’t think I would bite. Even if the money was no problem, I still don’t think I’d make the trip.
So here’s a question for you die hards – what’s your monetary ceiling? How much would you pay out of pocket for a ticket? Take a quick look at ebay for an idea of prices. Or do you prefer the comfort of your couch?
I am only going to the Super Bowl if I get a free ticket.

Good thought-provoking question. The Super bowl is one of my “bucket list” to-do’s … probably within the next 5-10 years when I have a bit more time (and $). I wonder what the face value of the cheapest ticket is? Anyway, for that once-in-a-lifetime shot at actually being there at the game, I’d probably try to set aside $1-2k for a “cheap seat”. Or is that totally naive of me? (I haven’t checked out eBay or Stubhub prices).
One of my bucket list items that will fall in a couple months is a trip to the Final Four, which is easy for me given it’s down here in Houston … no airfare or lodging to worry about. I’m confident to procure a nose-bleeder seat for $500 or less for all 3 games. Will bring binoculars to make my seat seem better than it actually is. 🙂
News flash: Andy “I’m not nearly as indecisive as Brett Favre” Pettitte will officially announce his retirement tomorrow.

I know we’ve discussed this in the past and sorry to revisit … but with regard to Andy Pettitte … Hall of Famer in your eyes? Why or why not?
Without even bothering to look at stats or anything right now, I’m gonna say yes, he is an eventual HoFer. Might take him a few years to get elected, but a very good career, if not outstanding, by today’s new standards for starting pitchers … and maybe more importantly he was consistently clutch in the post-season … and God knows he pitched a ton of post-season games. But certainly not a cinch to make it … I know his ERA probably isn’t as low as some would like it to be.

Are those “been-to-every-Super-Bowl-guys “for real? It is such a hard to get ticket. I remember years ago when I still had some interest in NFL. I put in for the game to be played at Detroit. My chances were infintesimal at best. Needless to say… Anyway, what is the ceiling for those never miss one guys. I wouldn’t be interested in that ticket at this point in time. Final Four; another matter. My nephew got tix for Indy last year and took his dad as a birthday gift. It was a thrill to be sure. They were texting me throughout the final game and I was thinking; I’d like to be in those seats someday. The nephew got his tix through his company in Chicago; can’t remember who he worked for, but if I was you Wally I’d be working that angle pretty hard. My nephew’s seats were middle of the road. Go for it, buddy. Anyway, my Final Four ceiling would probably be $2500, which means I will never go!
Wally – my opinion is, actually, that Pettitte is not a Hall of Famer. He comes up a little short in my book: 3.88 career ERA (117 ERA+), 1.357 WHIP, allowed over a hit per inning, 2.34 K/BB is nothing special, never dominant. He definitely benefited from being on the Yankees, had his moments in the postseason (but had his share of bad moments as well). A few top 5 Cy Young finishes, a few all-star teams, but nothing that really screams Hall of Famer to me.
That said, Jack Morris has nothing on him, except one huge moment, whereas Pettitte has quite a few big (but not huge) moments. So, I think Pettitte actually has a decent chance of making the Hall, and I wouldn’t be upset if he got in…it’s just that I think his career was very good, not excellent.

Can’t argue with that. One thing that “speaks to me” about Pettitte … career winning percentage over 63% … and 65.5% in 29 post-season games! I always thought of him as an innings eater, dependable, clutch and above all a winner.

If your ceiling was $2,500 for the Final Four, you might be sitting behind Coach K holding his Gatorade. You can defintely get a decent seat for $2500! Or was that a typo … you REALLY meant $250?

My guess is Pettitte stepped down because of a back door deal about steroid use. Just a hunch, but he was a BFF of Clemens.

You think you can get decent seats for 3 games at $250?

Pete —
No, you can get nosebleeders for $350-500 for all 3 games at Reliant Stadium in Houston for this year’s F4. But for $2,500 you can get a pretty good seat … might be great. Check out stubhub.com if you’re serious about investigating.

Keep me posted if you’re inclined to make the plunge 🙂
Assuming that Barry Larkin, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Frank Thomas, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and Craig Biggio all get in before his name hits the ballot (and we really don’t know how the voters are going to treat a few of those guys), that will leave a ballot in 2016 that may consist of (depending on what happens with a few of these guys prior to this): Pettitte, Ken Griffey, Trevor Hoffman, Billy Wagner, Jeff Bagwell, Jeff Kent, Curt Schilling, Mike Mussina, John Smoltz, Lee Smith, Tim Raines, Edgar Martinez, Alan Trammell, Larry Walker, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, and Rafael Palmeiro.
Even removing Trammell, Walker and McGriff, and maybe McGwire and Palmeiro, that’s at least 11 guys who I would normally expect to at least be in the 50% of the vote neighborhood.
Chas – lots of action on the hardwood this weekend. You will have to rely on me for all of your Canisius Golden Griffin highlights. BY the way, Canisius AT Boston University, February 19th.

I went to Super Bowl XI January 9,1977 at the Rose Bowl…Raiders beat Vikings…Still have my ticket stub…Face value $20.00 ! It was a pretty good seat too ! Pete, $2500 will get you first 10 rows mid-court for the Final 4…Wally and I will be in the nosebleeds with an oxygen tank but hey I’m good with that ! Being there will be PRICELESS ! Crash – I’m turning over every stone possible. The fact that Texas longhorns are looking like a 1 seed is not helping. Pretty soon the actual seat locations will be known on Stubhub. We should make our move in another 10 days
or so.

Any good sports on TV this weekend?
Here’s another angle on Pettitte’s HOF candidacy:
