Games, games and more games. It’s the last weekend of January. Conference rivals are squaring off. Networks are offering plenty of views. What are you watching?
Xavier at Richmond?
Texas A&M at Nebraska?
Wisconsin at Penn State?
Syracuse at Marquette?
Georgia at Kentucky?
Missouri at Texas?
Take a spot on the pine. Offer up your insights.
I think I posted in the wrong spot but I really like Texas this year. I had a chance to watch them against OK State the other night and goodness…they can play D. I like that when picking tourney games.
Richmond is really aggressive defensivley. Causing Lyons to kind of retaliate and make bad decisions. Tu Holloway is feeling the pressure to but he’s currently 11-11 from the FT line!
I have been skeptical of Texas all year because of the way they finished last year. They didn’t belong in the tourney, and their first-round exit proved it. But it is a new year, and as Chris says, they are getting it done with defense. Looking forward to tonight’s game.
Chris- great to have you back on the site.
If you told me before the XU-Richmond game, that one team would win by 23, I would have guessed the home team.
Holloway really looks like he has slowed the game down.
“The Pit” claims another victim. Jimmer and the Cougs fall at new Mexico.
Anyone watch the SU/Marquette game? SU’s zone couldn’t get a stop the whole 2nd half. The zone was suspect all day.
I watched the second half. Talk about a team struggling with the weight of expectations. The Orange are guilty, despite Coach Boeheim’s efforts, of buying into the early-season hype.
Not to take away anything from Marquette. The Eagles can get it done. They maximize each other’s talents.

Missouri’s turnover is fifth in the country at 5.8.
Texas’s rebound margin of 7.4 is 13th in the country.
Nice flex cut.
Good timeout by Mike Anderson. Missouri is in danger of this game getting away from them early.
Has anyone seen Missouri try to make contact on a rebound situation? 8-1 Texas on the boards.
SMITTY! You da man!
Quick.. somebody tell Missouri that the object of this game is to score MORE points than your opponent!
Haha.
One play they are so active on defense. Next play they are like statues.
Size of Texas?
Bowers is going to have a bruise the size of Texas on his chin!! A nasty elbow!
How do you spell woozie? Or is it woosy? Woozy?
Make a friggin’ layup already.
was that bird? Was that a plane?
Physical contact always helps when trying to get position for a rebound. 🙂
Texas is playing with a ton of energy!!
Has Missouri’s press caused a turnover yet??
I was always thought the statue look was the best approach to getting a rebound. 🙂
That 3 at the end of the half for Missouri was huge. Some Lady Mo heading into the locker room.
Texas has 10 offensive rebounds. Missouri has 11 total boards. The Tigers aren’t gonna win many basketball games that way.
Good point – for all that dominance, Texas is up just 11 points.
Texas has seven turnovers, but Missouri only has five points off turnovers.
Side note – the lead photo for SI’s Jimmer Fredette article was taken at UB.
Fredette’s real nameIS James. His mom gave him the nickname of Jimmer at birth.
Good evening, Gents. I’m back from the Aquinas basketball game and a quick dinner with the wife (we sat with partial view of the TV so I did catch some of the start of the Texas game). Don’t fret, I’m home and parked in the man cave with my fridge of Blue Light.
How is Texas looking on ‘”D”?
Gary Johnson is a man.
Rule #1 for Mike Anderson on defense is stop the ball. Isn’t that rule #1 for every team on defense?
Hard to tell about Texas’s d because Missouri is rebounding so poorly.
Hard to get a rebound when no one is under the basket.
I am sampling Saranac ICA.
Haha – that too Smitty.
From what I’ve seen, Texas is playing very good post defense. Their positioning is exceptional.
Absolutely. The Longhorns are forcing Missouri into settling for perimeter shots.
Actually, is Missouri running anything on offense. Or, are they just hoping for one on one advantages off the dribble?
Dane Miller with the highlight.
Anybody see that Pitt Rutgers highlight? Dane Miller missed a 3 at the end…he’s from Rush-Henrietta, right?
Yes, Dane Miller from R-H.
Missouri is making Balbay look like Deron Williams.
Texas can’t let Missouri stick around in this game,,
Wow! Those were a couple of gutsy calls by the refs.
Smitty – I was thinking the same thing.
Will somebody please tell Stafford to stop shooting.. He keeps hitting the backboard.. Not good when you are shooting jumpers.
I agree smitty. I have an uneasy feeling for Texas right now…
What is Texas shooting from the charity stripe?
The game tracker is behind. They have Texas as 5 of 8 from the line.
Texas is 8 of 16 from the line.
Texas is killing the post.
