It is that time again. Let’s hear from you readers. We had another week of stellar performances. Pick the ONE (1), UNE, UNO that stands out to you, and tell us a story.
Alshwan Hymes gets my POTW.
Hymes set a new school record with nine 3-pointers and a career-high 28 points as the Canisius Golden Griffins exorcised the Northwestern State Demons 85-52 in non-conference action.
Hymes connected on four trifecta as the Griffs finished the first half on a 29-10 run. Hymes stirred the Koessler Athletic Center. Fans were cheering with the ball in flight for what would be his eighth and ninth trey of the contest.
The sophomore has hit 42.7 percent (32-75) from behind the arc and averages 9.8 per game.
Who gets your POTW?
Nick V says
Hymes or Fredette… 34 is just another night for Jimmer though. We’ll go with Hymes.
Casey says
haha – I was thinking the same thing. Nick – welcome to the Pine. I should have included that writers in press row were cheering for Hymes.

I gotta go with TCU for their momentous win over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. And if I have to pick a player, it would be TCU’s Tank Carder (great name for a linebacker).
Casey says
Good call Wally!

I’ll go with the SEC. They had some big wins in their bowl games even though some of them were over the hapless Big Ten.
And staying on college football, why is everyone getting all fuzzy over TCU’s win? Hasn’t this been done before by non-AQ schools or am I wrong in thinking they’ve done this in BCS bowl games? Utah has done it twice. Boise did it one year, right? And TCU won a BCS bowl last year? No?
Wally says
Rey –
In BCS bowls, Utah beat Alabama (Sugar) , Boise State beat Oklahoma (Fiesta) and Boise State beat TCU (Fiesta) last year. The reason TCU’s win is “a cut above” is because Wisconsin was perceived to actually be under-rated at #5, they were excited to be at the Rose Bowl, they had good momentum at season’s end … in other words, Wisc was viewed as a top team and on top of their game coming in. And, it was THE ROSE BOWL … the one game EVERYONE watches.
Those wins over Bama and Oklahoma were perceived “flawed” because those teams were supposedly, not excited to be there, having lost their last game of regular season, etc. And then Boise beat TCU last year … when David plays David, it doesn’t really prove anything. When David beats Goliath, it does.
Casey says
Not to mention Wisconsin came in winners of their last seven (all in the Big Ten) scoring 70,48,83,34, 31,31,41, and the Horned Frogs held them 19.
Casey says
Besides, this is performance of the WEEK – not month, season or year.
Smitty says
Sticking with my New Years resolution..3 days in.
I am nominating Mark O’Meara and Nick Price for beating Fred Couples and Dustin Johnson in the ADT Skills Challenge.. The “old” guys showed that finesse and touch can still win over power and length..
1 down and 51 to go Chas.. 🙂

I see where everyone wants consecrate TCU’s win because it validates the playoff, but I just don’t think we should take it as the “token” example for why there should be a playoff. I don’t have a point with this, just hate to see people (Not you Wally, just people in general) act like TCU just solidified the fallacy behind the BCS. We knew this already. Just because it is the Rose Bowl shouldn’t make a difference. It was a BCS bowl, which is what matters most. Plus, the Big Ten isn’t looking too good right now, which might explain Wisconsin’s great play as of late. Rick Reilly called TCU’s win “epic.” I don’t know about that. The #3 team beat the #5 team. Wasn’t that supposed to happen? My point is (I guess) is if TCU got it’s shot and Auburn or Oregon was left out, it still proves that the BCS is bogus. I know we all know this, I’m just sick of hearing about TCU’s win.
