33rd Street and 7th Avenue – I know that area well. I made it my unofficial home for more than a decade. I played my last college game there. We did it up. Our nickname might have suggested we were dogs, but we did not play like it. We beat McGuire’s Marquette team by 15 to take the NIT title. That was a great run. After knocking off St. Peter’s, we took down Duke and Rutgers to advance to the finals. The next year, I was playing in that same place except in the NBA. For ten years, I ran the floor in the Garden. We brought home the title once. Yeah, “The Logo” and “The Big Dipper” couldn’t get two in a row on us. Some might think I got my nickname for the way I played. After all, I was first-team all defense seven times. I had a hand in taking away what others wanted to do. Maybe, people thought I was thief of sorts. Actually, I got my nickname because of the way I dressed. I suppose I might have looked nice next to Ms. Parker.
Who am I?
Crossword Pete says
I knew it was MSG. Once stayed catty corner and took the kids to a playoff game against the Bad Boys. Did not remember that SIU Salukis won the NIT, but certainly knew the value to the Knicks of one Walt “Clyde” Frazier. It amazes me how people still talk about Willis Reed’s great entry while injured to spur the Knicks to that 1973(?) championship! But what a team; DeBusschere, The Senator (Bradley), The Pearl (Monroe). Call me fair-weather, but I sure was a Knicks fan in thet era!

Pete,
Excuse my tardiness. Yes, the answer is Walt Frazier.
