I don’t care if you don’t read anything else on Pickin’ Splinters. If you are going to read just one news article today, read this one. Click here to read about Xavier’s Sister Rose Ann Fleming.

Good article. I think the Catholic Universities sooo emphasize academics. When I was at ND I made money tutoring ball players. They had busy schedules but never missed a tutoring session. They wanted to learn and their desire usually played out to good performances in the classroom. ND has an advisor assigned to travel with the major teams and oversee the players when on campus. At any rate, thsi lets me know that one of my “I-hope-I-get” players is definitely gone soon in our player pool.

Great stuff! As far as I am concerned, every school should have a Sister Rose Ann Fleming. She sounds like a great individual. Glad to see not only the players appreciate her, but Xavier recognizes what a special person they have.
Overall that is what college sports SHOULD be about. Funny how you don’t see this article on the front page of ESPN.

Aaron, I completely agree that it’s funny how you wouldn’t see that on the front page of ESPN. It’s almost unfortunate that something like this has to be acknowledged as special, it should be implicated in all colleges and universities. I wish we could see more of this going around. It was a heart warming story to hear, and makes me appreciate the careful treatment and education I’ve received.
