I know I have been gone from the bench for a while, but on a freezing cold night like tonight I want to hear what hot stove thoughts are running through our heads…
Since Santa has come and gone and Theo hasn’t delivered A-Gonz yet, what are we hoping to find at our favorite team’s Spring Training home?

Was only able to catch the last 1/2 of the 3rd period and then OT (“extra innings” might have been mentioned a few too many times), but this is about as good as hockey gets… just sorry my college classmate Peter Laviolette came out on the losing end…

Props to Hilton native Ryan Callahan for getting the call to this year’s US Olympic hockey team… seems to be a lot of pressure building on Ryan Miller’s shoulders already…

The Winter Classic was great. College football better be careful. It is quickly losing its market share – like that really matters here on the Bench!!! I am gumby dammit!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking of you during the Laviolette interviews.

Ryan Callahan AND Patrick Kane – Western New York hockey – that’s what I’m talking about!!!!

Hot stove? What is hot stove? 🙂 Someone better get me up to speed with that. This just in for their end of the decade show, ESPN gave their predictions. One included MLB using a relegation like system by dividing up the majors into the haves and have nots. Hmmmm…where have I heard of that idea before?

Oh yeah, did anyone catch the intro to the Winter Classic? When they introduced the honorary captains? That one guy was named top defenseman eight times. Twice he was the leading scorer. How many professional athletes can say that?

You play to win the game!

    Herm,

So how do you explain to your employer that your best wide receiver is out for the season – playing in a game that he didn’t need to be playing.

    Sincerely,

    A Wes Welkerless Fan

As a fellow welker-less fan, I have to say that this injury could’ve happened last week, 2 weeks ago, or in preseason (wait, he was hurt in preseason). The Pats play an offense dependent on timing, so to keep timing you need to play in game conditions. That being said, I hate that we lost Welker today- it’s an obviously huge loss. We may have to see if that kid Edelman has enough to offer…
If you are not playing to win the game, you are playing to not win the game… now that Buffalo has finished its crushing of Indy we will see if the Colts suffer from any “rustiness” in 2 weeks…

What is the media attention like up there concerning talks between the Bills and Cowher? Of course, if you trust ESPN by the time you finish the article another has been published that completely refutes the last. So are they seriously close to making it happen? If so, what do you guys think he’ll be able to do? My initial reaction is that maybe he will attract some decent free agents to Western NY who would never look that way for an NFL team.

Cowher would be a great fit. I’ll believe it when I see him on the sidelines at St. John Fisher in August.

Muels, You are right… It could have earlier in the season – but it didn’t.. So in Week 17 – you don’t have anything to play for. A win doesn’t help your position in the playoff standings. So don’t you have a responsibility to have your best players available for the playoffs? After all – isn’t the Super Bowl what you are after?

If Welker was healthy, I would be starting to pitch that the Pats are one of the teams to beat. Now – alot rests on the shoulders of Edelman. Hopefully he is ready for the task..
