What a week of sports action. We have a number of performances with which to choose. Step right up readers and give us the one (1), uno, une performance that stands out for you this past week.
Move over Mercury Morris and Don Shula. You guys got nothing on Russ Rose and his Penn State Nittany Lion women’s volleyball team.
In dramatic fashion, the Nittany Lions came back to win their 102nd consecutive match and third straight national title.
After falling behind two sets the Nittany Lions recovered to down the Texas Longhorns, 22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-13. The two-set deficit was the first of its kind faced by the Nittany Lions during the streak.
Megan Hodge paced the Nittany Lions with 21 kills.
Only the Miami men’s tennis team with 137 straight victories from 1957-64 can boast a better streak than the Penn State.
Who gets your POTW?
Smitty says
I am nominating the quarterbacks from Green Bay/Pittsburgh game:
Aaron Rodgers – 26 of 48 for 383 yards and 3 TDs
Big Ben Roethlisberger – 29 for 46 for 503 yards and 3 TDs
Nearly 900 passing yards for the game. If Rudolph got mad because he wasn’t allowed to play in any reindeer game -imagine how the running backs felt in this game.
Wally says
Joshua Cribbs of the Cleveland Browns for 2 KO returns for TD Sunday, and he broke Gale Sayers record for TD kick returns in a season. Cribbs has basically been “what to cheer for” in CLE this season.
Casey says
Smitty and Wally – great calls indeed!!!!
Smitty says
Wally – great call! ! Cribbs had over 300+ return yards yesterday. Now I can get how the Chiefs would allow Cribbs to return one back, but they kicked to him again and again!!
Somehow, kicking the ball out of bounds and letting the Browns start at their own 40 yd. line – sounds like a better alternative. Go figure.
Wally says
Hard to top what Penn State V-ball has accomplished, as Casey aptly points out. And what a comeback in that Texas title tilt !!!
Boog says
I nominate the defensive front line of the Wyoming Cowboys who stopped Ryan Matthews and Fresno State from the 1/2 yard line on 4 straight downs in overtime. This is the same Ryan Matthews that ran wild against Boise State.
Casey says
Boog!!!!!!
Great call. Way to go beyond the obvious for the POTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
