The Webster Yankees hit the road running for 2009. After six games Webster has outscored their NYCBL opponents: 25-9. Of those nine runs allowed only 5 are earned. Yankee starters have tossed 37 innings giving up 4 runs.

The eighth has been a little crazy for the pinstripes. Webster bats accounted for 14 runs in that stanza.

Nate Koontz (Ball State) made himself known this week. The freshman from Indianapolis slashed a two-out, RBI triple in the eighth inning opening night win over Elmira, 4-2.  Friday night, Koontz drove in the tying and winning run with a double as the home nine topped Alfred 4-2.  Finally, Koontz ripped a two-out two-run home run that proved the game-winner in Elmira Saturday night.

Bryant Guilmette earned my POTW.

homelogo1Last year, Steve Muoio (Georgia College) earned first-team all-league. He picked up this week where he left off with eight hits including four doubles and 3 RBI.

Geoff Dornes (R.I.T) allowed just one hit over innings in Friday’s game. Dornes also went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Sunday, the pinstripes scored all four of their runs with two outs. None better than in the fourth when Shawn Bailey (SUNY Cortland) dropped a text-book two-out bunt for a single – to the first base side of pitcher’s mound just out of reach of the hurler and died before the second baseman could get to it. Bailey stole second, and Chriss (not a typo) Soldi (UMass-Lowell) plated him with the single. The sequence exemplified the idea of manufacturing a run.
