Coast-to-coast – man with the most – go Bobby, go…turns 61 today.
A wonderful day when we can post that picture on the site.
Take a moment and pass along birthday greeting to Parry Sound’s favorite son.
Orr finished the ’70 – ’71 season with 37 goals, 102 assists, and 139 points. It was one of five times Orr led the league in assists – the only defenseman to accomplish such a feat in the NHL.
His 139 points ranked second in the NHL that season and season all-time at that point in league history.
To add a little context to Orr’s season – Paul Coffey scored 48 goals, assisted on 90 for 138 points in 1985-86. As a team Edmonton 426 goals that year. Coffey directly contributed to 32% of his team’s offense.
The Bruins scored 399 in 70-71 of which Orr had a hand in 35%.
During his best statistical season Wayne Gretzky amassed 52 goals, 163 assists for 215 points. This occurred also in the 85-86 campaign. Gretzky took part in just under 50% of team’s offense.
In 70-71 Orr had a plus/minus of 124.
Coffey in 85-86? 61.
Gretzky? 71.
Happy Birthday Bobby!!!!!

Casey, your man-crush on Bobby Orr is getting a bit embarrassing. I could understand posting this on his 60th b-day, maybe his 65th, certainly his 70th. But Casey … it’s his 61st birthday … six one!!!! It appears as though you were obviously looking for ANY excuse to gush about #4. We know he’s one of the greatest ever … you don’t need to keep proving it every 2-3 weeks. We get it.
Now go root for Duke and the others you have going far in your brackets.
