Who am I?

December 6, 2008 by Paul Gotham 2 Comments

Those who can – play.  Those who can’t – coach.  I’ve always disagreed with that saying.  As a player I proved my worth.  At the University of Pittsburgh I earned Big East freshman-of-the-year honors while leading the Panthers to the second round of the NCAA tournament.  We would make two more appearances in the dance during my career.  When I graduated I was the school’s all-time leader in assists and free throw percentage.  I also finished in the top fifteen for points scored.  But coaching that’s what I wanted to do.  After twelve years as an assistant I earned my own gig.  In my first four years I led my school to a record of 93-39 including one conference tournament championship and two regular-season titles.  I was voted conference coach of the year and led the team to its second berth in the Elite Eight.  I hope to have a highlight of my coaching career that eclipses that one moment in my playing career when I gave a pass that led to a shattered backboard.

That would be Sean Miller – now the coach at Xavier.
