Who am I?

November 18, 2008 by Paul Gotham 8 Comments

images48In college I was part of a national championship team. Before I graduated I garnered third-team and first-team All-American honors. I was a first round pick in the NBA draft. There I learned a lesson about how an ally can become a thorn in the side. During my 17-year career I played in the finals with three different teams. The first two times my teams lost to an opponent led by a college teammate of mine. After being traded, again, I helped another team to the finals only to lose to one of the previous teams I helped to the finals. Playing for four different teams I scored over 15,000 points, grabbed 7,600 rebounds, and played 167 playoff games. I was 1st team All-Rookie in ’84-’85.

That was a cover, dudes. If you’re going to pay tribute, you should at least pick an original.

Well, you’re built like a car
You got a hubcap diamond star halo
You’re built like a car, oh yeah
    Well, you’re an untamed youth
That’s the truth, with your cloak full of eagles
You’re dirty, sweet and you’re my girl

If I am not mistaken, Perkins, tho born and raised in Brooklyn, played his high school ball in upstate Latham (NY) Shaker HS. He was a classmate of my ex-brother-in-law (lots of dashes in THAT phrase).

    Pete

You are not mistaken – in fact when one attends the NYS final four and buys a program, Perkins’s picture is usually in it.
